I used to work in legal aid when I was first starting out in the law. I really liked it. Okay, the pay was awful and the bureaucratic bollox we had to go through was massive but the feels of keeping a family off the streets when they were homeless and the local authority was basically refusing to assist in any way, that was monumental. I also learnt an awful lot about many different areas of law because every client was a new adventure.

Thing is, not once did I or any of my colleagues get any recognition for same. No big name donors lining up to sign over fat cheques to our law centre. Oh no. We had to compete for government grants which usually went to the biggest, splashiest, most self-promotion happy earslings around. People like Greta, in fact. And this is what really sticks in my craw about her project. While she's whining about how trans people can't trust anyone not trans, and the right sort of trans to boot, thousands of people across the world who were in my position and just do it because it is the right thing to do not because of any identity politics are doing the actual work of keeping them housed, battling discrimination in the workplace and elsewhere, getting them access to mental health resources and assistance with transitioning and suchlike. But to Greta, all these people are cis scum and can't be trusted, ever, and are secretly plotting against transpeople to try to discourage trans solidarity.

But you can trust Greta. She's a TRUE AND HONEST transwoman and as such has your best interests at heart. Just give her all your money and don't associate with the wrong sort of transpeople. Or cis people. Or men. Or transmen because they're not TRUE AND HONEST transpeople and have male privilege anyhow.

tbf though, Rani is bringing up legit criticism in their group which is actually heartening. All we ask is they take a rational approach and look at the information we found. The line is a bust and really isn't helping anyone. I'd still like to know how the 2-hour trained volunteers handle calls. The lack of any real training and "support" from delusional people is really frightening and more harmful to the community. Especially as they also play favorites and politicking about who is and isn't "good enough" to talk to and who deserves to die.

The reason TLL is the "only player" is because its founders deliberately manipulate potential users into believing no one else could ever help them and in fact would just make it worse for them.
