Adult Games General - Because we all know why you play them one-handed.

My dream of AA3 is truly dead since ILLUSION is ceasing development of games.
Switching to Unity and ditching their in house engine did not saved them in the end. End of an era despite them celebrating their 30th anniversary not long ago. They closing down was expected to happen any time, but they caused their own demise IMHO:

Refused to sell their games overseas (like a good gorious nippon company)
  • They did release some in english but with a lot of changes for worst that turned people to go to surf the seas
[*]Made so many franchises instead of focusing on some and improving them overtime
  • And to their detriment, some of those games are forgettable...
  • Or even the same game with different characters that could work as an expansion in the first place
  • Koikatsu should have been AA3, leave the open world, add the interactions of AA2 and allow me to date boys
[*]Did not wanted to modernise their business in a meaningful way (remember that most japanese people do not like change)
[*]High price tags for their games
  • I would sound like a corporate suit, but if they had considered subscription models, a lot of coomers would have accepted it with cash in hand, just look at the porn games at patreon
[*]Bad optimisation that could make Bethesda blush
  • Why is AA2 more than 8GB on lauch?!
  • And in the same Bethesda way, the community had to fix problems with their games
  • Their latest efforts were commendable and kinda impressive just to be used for porn, but it was already late
I looked for a random porn game on patreon to have an idea of how much a low effort game can make, and I got one generic one called Hentai University made by Noodle Jacuzzi, it is a "game" that have some parallels to the "games" fenoxo makes (as in, multiple collaborators coluding with each other and the same interactivity as playing with a DVD controller), it also uses CGI from other games and artist from pixiv and it makes 500 a month somehow despite not being in a finished state for the foreseable future despite just releasing the version 30 of the game (yes, thirtieth version)

It is been a long time since I got my hands on a game of Illusion and I had to search what what their last release and it really looks impresive, but when you have low effort coomer games that make considerable amounts of money on patreon or even itch.io, their business was bound to not being sustainable in the long run.

I also think that Alicesoft is next on the chopping block, they have been very quiet after their last release for what little I searched

This legitimately upsets me. Almost everything Illusion makes is janky shit, but they hit on something special with AA2... and then just never gave us anything else like it. (Shut up, Koikatsu was trash.)
Realistically you'd be hard pressed to find a porn game that's better then Sims4+WhickedWhims+all the mods with your fetish, and it would be largely free. some mods do expect you have certain content packs to work, but those mods can be skipped.
Now if only Maxis (or whatever skinwalker studio is using that name these days) would quit "updating" the game and constantly breaking the mods. I just gave up on the game last year and kind of sigh every time I think about taking a fucking afternoon to fix it all.

With the end of Illusion, they are delisting all their games from all store fronts on August 18th.

I doubt abandonware sites would list porn games. They never have as far as I know, but could be wrong on that.

The only Illusion game I care about is Kanojo VR, and that's mainly because it was one of those meme games from the early days of VR. Though I question that how ironic people are being when they have 20+ hours in a virtual girlfriend game. It's one I'd actually like to check out just to see how it is, but not at the asking price, especially since I don't have a VR headset to actually play it.

Piracy is still a option and is truly the only way to play a illusion game. Also didn't Illusion come back as "Illgames" literally a week or so after announcing their shutdown?

This. Their new game is called Honeycome and looks to be a mixture of Koikatsu and Honey Select. I'm glad the studio still exists however, Illusion going would be a bummer as they're the only ones putting out Poser like studio software for people to use.

Let me see, what have I seen over the past few months.
I've noticed something strange in NTR games. I like laughing at cucks and they post literal paragraphs describing their fetish like a leftist describes a meme. But there's 3 in particular I've noticed over the past few months, Infidelitysoft was the first. They moved to releasing VNs though Itch.Io. Now itch has integrated Patreon log in, so you have to log in to Itch with a valid patreon in order to play the game in the browser, no downloading it to share.
The second was DrunkCat productions. The owner of that didn't like that his VN was being shared in the thread so he created his own site where you have to log in in order to download and play it.
The third is the dev of Indecent Hana. He's gone to the point of adding DRM to his VN and putting it up on DLsite. This gets cracked in a few days and gets shared around the thread.

Do you notice the pattern? All three devs have some kind of restriction to acquiring their product that focusing on stealing loved ones from one another. I'd call that pretty funny. This is also to avoid scrappers like Kemono.party but other games like Harem Hotel, Renryuu or Soverign have no problem because they actually want to get their game out there.

Oh shit, I made a note about Roundscape. Oh man, this. So Roundscape wasn't in the best state before the Gold Patch. Bugs about and this was supposed to fix that.
It didn't. Instead, this patch introduced more bugs, made the game worse and then the art. Roundscape has always had inconsistant quality to it's art, it's a legacy game from 2016 so that comes with the territory. Instead of doing what Last Soverign does and slowly make it all quality from a single artist, they fed the art through stable diffusion and put the AI art in to replace the old ones.
AI art has exploded in popularity since it's been discovered. Last time I checked, rule34.xxx has 80k images in like a year since it's been publicly available.

They were making 20k a year and resorted to AI art. Tells you all you need to know about this. Skip it.

Something Unlimited released it's 2.4.3 update, it's nothing as usual.

Might talk about AI art for a minute. I actually don't mind it. There's two examples that come to mind in that being Interstellar Harem which uses character models coupled with descriptive writing make it seem more than it is. The images are helping sell what is written. This is the same case as Masters of Raana, which has been using AI art for event scenes recently. Raana recently got it's big 0.8.2 update. The dev was working on the game as a side project till 6 months ago when he went full time, And despite earning about 8k a month, his patreon hasn't been scrapped by kemono.party. He releases his backers edition through discord, anybody who would scrape would get called out.
Anyway, AI art when done correctly is another tool for devs to use. It can look uncanny though, so I get why not everyone wants to use it. There's another one called Bride of the Dead God I wanna check.

What a Legend has been stuck for over a year at 0.6. This is because the couple making it have a child now and as a result the father had some extra stress, so things are slow going. The patrons don't seem to mind however.

Majikoi A-5 got translated. Except the translator didn't do it correctly, like always. I was wondering why the thread was getting bumped.

Walkure romance also got translated, that one has been long requested. I'm still waiting on Sukebe Elf 5 years later.

That's it on everything new I think. What I've tried recently:
- Ravager: Yes, somehow took the plunge on this one. I found this game because Defiler Wings took assets from it that the creator threatened to sue over. It's... weird. One the one hand, you have a game made by a dragon dick fan collecting a harem and ruling over a kingdom. On the other, you have bad ends for all heroines which belong in a different game. This two tone approach makes it schizophrenic. Not really a fan of it.
- Agent Mirai: It's kinda rare to get games made completely in Blender, need more of them. Think the dev is going to work on another game that'll be a follow up so I'm gonna keep an eye on him.
- Marionette: Really liked this one. You're put in control of a brothel in the future that uses AI sex dolls. There are 5 androids that control them but as you expand, it takes a toll on the androids who are not exactly in the best shape. Got to the point where I wanted the owner and the androids to be happy, the story is simple but melancholy. Give it a shot.
- Corrupted Kingdoms: I don't know what's going on with this. The Dev had a surefire hit, corrupted vs fae with you in the middle. That second act had you rescue people, have children with and put them in daycare. You actually care about family interactions. It was all wholesome. Then act 3 came and it's all war and serious business. He also changed the UI so the text is in the center now, not spread out like it should be for a VN. This means old renders have the UI covering it. It's a mess, I hope he finds his way back.
- Renryuu: I'll admit I'm sunk cost on this one. The dev is planning over 180 children at some point in the future. He's made lengthy forum posts about each one spitballing ideas. His autism is honestly driving me to keep playing, just to see what he puts in next.
- Expedition of Dr Maria: Found a translation for it, seems decent enough. Might have loli, judging from the cover. Just letting you know.

I'm waiting for Pale Carnations to finish before I judge it and I wanna go though Black Souls and Eiyu Senki at some point.

Honeycome looks neat, but we'll have to wait and see if it takes Koikatsu position as the top dog in the niche. The Modding scene is very important to the KK community and has been around for a while, so Honeycome has a lot of ground to cover.

minecraft thread might be more suited, not sure there's one in community watch. for me mod != game (would also open the floodgates for skyrim mods), but that's just me.

two possibilities, modders finally crack open il2cpp so it works for any release the future, or a repeat of play home where they simply don't bother due to locked down and minimal improvement and everyone kept using heavily modded honey select, or KK in this case.

illusion/illgames might also have kinda screwed themselves with the rebrand, if the legal ownership is in limbo there's no one to go after any reverse engineering of the old illusion games. some autists putting out an "open source" kk/hs would smother any future sales hard.

Much like work done by competent artists, good results take time even with AI art processes and you will probably need to manually clean up the various outputs. Anyone who has spent any time at all on the internet looking at artwork over the last year can probably recognize AI generated artwork at a glance more often than not as a lot of it has a very similar style/feel. There's really only two "problems" with it, and both of them are less the fault of the art generation and more the fault of the creator.

The biggest problem that could be attributed to AI art itself (but really shouldn't be) is consistency; if you're creating something where you need lots of artwork of a character in different poses/clothing/expressions, then you really need to take the time and effort to pick models that'll give you style/look and feel consistency between everything you're generating (and probably pick a style/look that isn't basically AI art default that's oh so recognizable). Then you'll need to make LoRAs/models for the characters/outfits/whatever so characters look consistent and aren't suddenly wearing completely different clothes when they go from a standing pose to crossing their arms or have their face swapped out for someone else between renders. Lots of experimentation, time and effort required for a good result, which leads to the second issue...

It feels like a lot of hopefuls that want to be the next big thing (or want a quick buck) are using AI art to slap something together quickly, advertise their Patreon/whatever everywhere but aren't really willing to put in the time or effort to create something noteworthy. This used to be done mostly with 3D posing programs (Koikatsu/Daz/Honey Select) but AI art generation seems to be the new low hanging fruit to use instead. With minimal effort comes the aforementioned consistency issues, or developers proudly putting up images to advertise their Visual Novel that make you ask "Why does your heroine have a third leg coming out of her ass" or "Why are his hips blending into his shoulders; that's REALLY not how anatomy works". I've got quite a growing list of images I've generated on my machine that I kind of like, but even a brief glance at it reveals flaws that I feel I have to fix via either inpainting or photoshop however this urge seems to be completely lacking in many fresh developers.

Currently, the biggest hurdles for AI art are time and the people running the prompts to generate the art. Likely with more time the general quality of the outputs will improve as the software/models improve but if the people creating the art remain lazy then they're just going to keep churning out disappointments.

TL;DR - You're absolutely right; AI art is another tool in the toolbox for developers to use. But it's a tool that can be blatantly obvious when used and even more obvious when you fuck it up.
There's no way that isn't going to turn out horribly for everyone involved. But seriously, why the hell would you mod Minecraft of all things for that? If you find rectangles arousing there's no need to bother modding a children's game; just glance around and there should be enough objects in your vicinity to keep you going until you die of dehydration or blood loss via chafing.

Nobody mentioned this yet ITT, so I'll do so by replying to this 2 month old post (sorry about that), but Illusion reformed to Illsoft, they're working on some Koikatsu looking game and /h/ is on suicidewatch because apparently it's shit for modding. There's not much info on why they closed the studio and reopened immediately with a new name.

The thing is that you actually have the tools available to you to help keep characters somewhat consistent, it's just not as simple as flipping a switch or writing some extra words in your prompt.
Even without using those tools I've been able to get some very consistent results across models of characters who I entirely made up, so while you are totally correct I don't think this even needs to be seen as an issue if people would just take the time to learn about the tools they are using.

A good game i like is Star Knightess Aura, you play as an uptight nerd girl isekai'd into a fucked up world and get cursed by the Maou and now you return every night with your days showing the effects of the corruption curse, its basically baby's first TLS, not in theme or anything but in how you have to plot out your moves optimally, only bad thing is that it relies too much on the you can only take x number of steps per area type mechanics still good art and fun premise

Thank god I didn't get too invested in that, Jesus.
