Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

That direct kind of sucked, but Unicorn Overlord looked great, Trace Memory was a nice surprise and I'm always down for a new Saga game. Plus Shin Chan is getting a sequel so there were at least a few things for me. But jesus fuck Nintendo, stop with the ports.

okay, so, Direct over...

Honestly, more than I expected
It was a weird one though? Carried by a few minor major announcements. Like, the first-party stuff stood out really hard and everything else kind of languished, even though most of the first-party stuff was tiny remake announcements or Battle Royales of old stuff. Was a bit sad to see them shilling literal shovelware in their rapid-fire title coverage; same with dedicating an entire segment to a new Among Us map because they presumably had nothing else to show.

I find it interesting how 2024 has like 3 games lined up for it maximum and none of them are anything special. You'd think there'd be more, but I'm guessing that by Summer 2024 there'll be new hardware to pick up where the Switch left off. I hope so, anyways.

A Thousand Year Door remake. Thousand... Year... Door... remake...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I soyfaced like a motherfucker throughout this whole trailer. My knees are shaking. I'm laughing like a madman. I feel like I'm about to cry.

... Okay, a bit of hyperbole. But everything about this trailer looked beautiful. The art is beautiful. The gameplay is intact. The music is stunning. They removed the thick white outlines that ruined nu-Paper Mario's art style. And most importantly, there's not a single goddamn paper pun in sight. They took everything good about the original, mixed it with the few good things that nu-Paper Mario actually got right, and the result is modern Paper Mario as it always should have been. Even the picture frame in Mario's house has all the partners from the original N64 game!

It's... it's perfect. It's everything I had hoped for, but completely given up on.

F-Zero 99 is neat too. Mario vs DK badly needed a remake, it looked and played like shit, even sounded bad.

TTYD might be unnecessary, depends if they add anything substantial. If it's just graphical enhancements then it really didn't need it, PM games are like wine visually.

I'd say it was good, not great.

I think they're adding some kind of epilogue or something. There was a hint near the end of the announcement at some weird plotline where a HAL-looking AI falls in love with Peach. Sounds retarded and fun.

It had been so long I wasn't sure what that was about. Anything new is very welcome. I hope SMRPG gets something as well.

I'm blown away that they're actually making a faithful TTYD remake.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if I'll get it since I've replayed the original countless times and still have it with me but its incredible to see Nintendo getting the Mario RPGs back on track with this and the SMRPG remake after they've been floudering so badly in the mid to late 2010s.
I'll have to see if they add something like boss rematches to TTYD but its still great to see them respect this game and make it more accessible to a newer generation.

I can’t really speak for much of the Direct but the Sora amiibo announcement is really interesting, I remember reading somewhere that the most recent update for Ultimate (and the last as per Sakurai’s word) doesn’t actually have amiibo data for Sora. Oh god I hope they patch Steve’s jankiness if they update the game.

Gamecube games can get expensive on the secondary market and last time I checked TTYD was one of the more expensive titles.

I take it the switch is dead now as there was only 3 (probably 2 because I have no idea what is up with Pikachu) non-remakes announced by Nintendo. I am curious about Peach because I still have no idea what that game is. I am guessing a puzzle title with some combat?

Okay, this is the first I've heard of this, but it's getting an English release from WayForward and I'm totally buying this.

I mean, this is nice for people who want to be able to buy the game and can't because the GC version is retardedly expensive. I just own the GC version and don't really care about having it again. I was really hoping for the Rhythm Heaven collection because it would at least be the first time most people could play the second game, like with the Trace Memory collection.

Hey, what did I miss -

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So it’s definitely fair to say that was probably the last direct exclusively for Nintendo switch, literally just remakes and super low effort ports like Luigi’s mansion 2 which is literally just the original game in HD. Paper Mario thousand year door remake looks amazing though super happy to see that game is finally getting some love by nintendo. At this point I think it’s only inevitable that the switch successor will be announced in the next few months I’m betting on October at this point
