I'm pretty sure the reason why the Moral Orel thing feels dumb is that yeah, he really isn't wrong, it is a giant middle finger to Christians and christianity. It's absolutely that. But like, that's obvious. Like, yeah, this faith-based show on Adult Swim is shockingly anti-christian overall.
Adam takes this and makes it seem like that's the deeper context and not just the blatantly obvious. He smugly portrays it as the show's main driving force and the main reason that Moral Orel is worth a watch.
The characters and their struggles are worth the watch. The whole Christianity nail just becomes like, extra background context. It treats the characters like complex people with complex issues that can't just be solved with faith and church. For some of them, that's the whole point of their character: struggling with their faith. It treats these characters as multi-faceted beings with multiple different factors affecting them. It's like real life and how any religion, when boiled down to it, is just kind of a giant cope. The show treats it's subjects and topics with respect. This is the show that got canceled for being too depressing, after all.
Adam not being able to see deeper than the "Christianity Bad" angle, in a way, almost does the show a disservice because it's so much more than that. That's why it really comes off as smug and dumb when he brings it up.
Adam just has a hate boner for Christians.
