I have 90% of stuff delivered. I’ve compared prices, and in many cases delivery is at or below cost for me to go fetch it, and the time sink avoided only improves the data. It is sometimes more expensive, but tbh not by much.
The downside is lack of the inspiration you might feel when actually with physical objects, and just the general experience of interacting with the world. Can’t quantify the last bit, but agree it has value. For specific needs or when I’m interested in things not available in mass (national or local) markets, I go to the place. But while I recognize the dysfunction of being cloistered and relying on delivery, from an efficiency standpoint, I find value in having certain things delivered. Nectarines and tomatoes and berries and other fresh things are things I prefer to put my hands on to select, but dishwasher detergent or cat litter or hvac filters or salt for the water softener? Shop it or bring it to me. Saves me time, wear on my car, gas, and general interruption in my day.
