Furry Convention Drama - Because you can't have a couple thousand dog fucking enthusiasts under the same roof without shit hitting the fan

Ahahahahhahahh.... this is either a fuck-up of epic proportions on the hotel itself, or absolutely shitty back-end communication issues with the con staff itself with the hotel. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Edit: This is con early year bullshit, not stuff you have happen 6+ years into an event history.

The hotel could have found out how much damage furries do at cons. They can't cancel the con due to the contract, but they can "overbook the hotel" and dump furries somewhere else.

There is a 0% chance the overflow hotel knows they're booking furries. They think it's a business convention, and the hotel will be full of doctors and hot pharma reps who will spend money at the hotel bar.

They deserve the be-shitted diapers that will end up on the windshields of other innocent patrons.

How is a 34min walk not walking distance? (:_(
Not that I would want to walk through any inner city in America
rest assured that connecticut is mostly white protestant insurance salesmen living in suburbia. you just have to watch out for the italians.

all the infrastructure will be car-focused though so walking would be a PITA

For furries (specifically fursuiters), it's probably not the safest idea, especially in a more densely populated area. When you take into account the bright neon colors of most fursuits, the lack of peripheral vision in a fursuit head, and the fact that most suiters would be doing this walk late at night, a lot of these suiters would be a prime target for a mugging and would be understandably uncomfortable if they were forced into that situation.

Walking distance for a normal walk is entirely different from walking distance to a hotel during a convention, furry or not. Costumes are heavy; fursuits more so. Carrying swag can also create an issue, and regardless of location, walking a distance at 2-3am is still a pretty large risk.

If a casual search on Twitter is anything to go by, at least 5 of the 40-ish furries who had their Furpoc reservations moved chose to not go to the overflow hotel and just canceled their plans outright. These are just the ones I could find through public searching, but I'd imagine the actual number is a little higher.

I'm not bothering to archive most of these, but here:

If that guy in the third screenshot (who's complaining about accessibility issues) got kicked and is actually disabled, it's not a good look for the con or the hotel.

Think his issues are related to his fursuit not himself. In 2nd shot he says he can't sit in his suit.

You're probably right, I didn't think of that possibility when I made the post. But it makes sense because if your suit makes it difficult to move around, a 15-minute shuttle drive would be super-inconvenient if you need to de-suit or change.

Slight powerlevel, but a furry contact I occasionally hit up (in order to help with research for other AC threads) is a fursuiter whose suit is designed in a way that makes it difficult to walk large strides. In their case, it's pretty much required that they have easy access to a place where they can change/adjust their suit within close reach.

Stanford isn't exactly Baltimore.

Still not understanding why they can't just stash their shit in a friend's room at the main hotel though. People do this at cons all the time.
for that you would need friends you can actually trust with your shit and even furries are aware that they can't so much as trust their furry friends to not date rape them

I randomly wandered into this thread and did a double take when I saw it's taking place at the Armon. It's an establishment that caters to Ultra-Orthodox Jews, with a synagogue and kosher restaurant on premises. I'm sure the owners and usual clientele were absolutely thrilled by last year's experience.

True. American cities are not walkable at all. I'd imagine you'd be run over with a freedom truck on a 12 lane highway if you try to walk in America

Baked Alaska tweeted a video of an IP2 streamer getting kicked out of Megaplex.

THE FULL VIDEO ON KICK

Fortunately, my friend downloaded the video for me when I couldn't at the time:
MEGA Link

The guy's in one of those cheap fox suits being extremely annoying, although the reactions from the
attendees are amusing. Quite a few people mentioned this on X/Twitter, but I didn't grab any
screenshots as most were just vague responses.
