You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

I sautéed some vegetables and forgot to season them. I didn't notice until I took my first bite. So I am going to say unseasoned food grinds my gears

I made zucchini parmesan last week and didn't realize I left parmesan out of the breadcrumb mixture until I had served it on the table.

Not really something that makes me furious but rather makes me super sad.

What is it with hoodrats and them murdering each other over petty insults and garbage songs? Such a fucking waste of time, energy and life. Like ffs, get over yourselves and don't shoot someone in the head because he said he fucked your sister or something. What is actually wrong with you?

Now, something that does piss me off.

Public transportation and their inability to function properly. Not being late, although it often is, only around or minute or two.

I'm talking half the STOP buttons not fucking working on the bus so I have to panic press every other button in the vicinity and hope they work while we get closer to my destination.

I'm talking the navigation sign not work nor does the sound bite announcing each stop on the way. Like what the fuck, how do you expect people to navigate comfortably if they don't know where they are at. What if they were blind?

Slight powerlevel here but it also triggers my neuroticism and I panic and shake like a wet dog whenever it happens. Especially when it comes to places I have to go to but I'm not familiar with.

What irritates me is that it's been an issue for years and the company behind the busses do fuck all about it. Especially if you don't live in the giant Metropolitan cities.

You ever catch a whiff of something tasty in public and try to narrow down and find the source. Instead you can't find it and wonder where it's from in a timeframe of an hour to a month. I do that sometimes.
There's this "raspberry" scent I keep smelling months apart over the years. Must be some sort of perfume, not something I'd use on myself but it's somewhat pleasing whenever it comes up again.

i mentioned this is the autstic purchases thread but One thing that really pisses me off is some of the issues of reprints of older comics i bought contain disclaimers about how "this material may be offensive today, or has harmful depictions along with the usual goboldly gook about a "more inclusive future." yeah fuck you modern woke marvel. The only one that flat out says this is th reprint of giant size xmen #1 and the only reason i can think theyd add that is because it uses warpath's old costume which along with his "coloring" might be a little too "atlanta braves" for modern marvel to handle.

Better that than them editing the things

FAIR point, the art and tye writing seems to be left unaltered which is more than I can say for the old marvel essentials line. Still..every time I open the cover in reninded..oh right this comic isn't ACTUALLY from 1975 aka a time when no one cared about hurting other "feelings.''

I hate how being yourself has been ruined by Being Yourself ©. Being Yourself © is about being a special snowflake who gets asspats and attention. Whereas someone who is just being their authentic self doesn't care about recognition. You can be you without all the fanfare and praise. Being Yourself © has tainted individualism as a corny feel good movement where you're in denial of reality. Someone who is just truly being themself can be honest about both their failings and successes. You accept that you're not "perfect as you are," but you also accept that you can still be the best you that you can be.

Sorry for the little rant. This week I've had enough of Being Yourself © from pompous whiny kidults who care a lot more about fitting in than they are willing to admit.

I'm sick of those stupid fucking ear buds everyone has hanging out of their ears now. It wasn't enough to walk around with their faces stuck in a phone on some garbage dump social media/clickbait site? Now they have to clog their auditory senses too? Over saturation of technology has moved us into the time of the Living Dead...

Seeing more and more people completely reliant on doing their grocery shopping through DoorDash or Instacart or UberEats instead of driving themselves to do their own shopping because they’re either too much of a lazy fucking fatshit to leave the home anymore, or (as a lot of them have admitted) they’re just that terrified of being in a place with other people instead of sequestered in their bedroom 24/7.

How do you get to the point you’re so pathetically weak that the mere thought of going grocery shopping around *GASP!* other people sends you into a nervous wreck?Where you’d rather pay the insane markup prices on these NEET apps for your shit instead of hauling your ass out of your home to get it yourself

I have 90% of stuff delivered. I’ve compared prices, and in many cases delivery is at or below cost for me to go fetch it, and the time sink avoided only improves the data. It is sometimes more expensive, but tbh not by much.

The downside is lack of the inspiration you might feel when actually with physical objects, and just the general experience of interacting with the world. Can’t quantify the last bit, but agree it has value. For specific needs or when I’m interested in things not available in mass (national or local) markets, I go to the place. But while I recognize the dysfunction of being cloistered and relying on delivery, from an efficiency standpoint, I find value in having certain things delivered. Nectarines and tomatoes and berries and other fresh things are things I prefer to put my hands on to select, but dishwasher detergent or cat litter or hvac filters or salt for the water softener? Shop it or bring it to me. Saves me time, wear on my car, gas, and general interruption in my day.

It's also been a godsend to me when I've gotten sick and can't leave my house, but I really want some medicine and other essentials. My grandparents also make use of it quite often since my grandpa's too frail to leave home most of the time. But I make a point not to rely on it and actually go out and do my own shopping, if for no other reason than simply because I like doing things myself, and because my grocery store is within walking distance*.

*In my opinion, "walking distance" is within 3 miles.

You Know What Grinds MY Gears???

Going to the grocer and seeing other people groping the melons and rubbing the noses on them, YUCK!

In a similar vein to the delivery issue: people who are all for the removal of human interaction for day to day things, then wonder why the newer generations don't have proper social skills.
Or why they can't speak proper English and why they instead speak in internet slang. They get very little proper socialization, and then try to apply their online habits in real life, which leads to them looking like idiots who can't be taken seriously. No wonder Zoomers are neurotic messes who can't function in society with zero job prospects.

Honestly, there should be a policy in all stores that if you directly touch food, like it has no packaging, you have to buy it.
But produce is in stores at varying levels of immediate edibility. You have to knock on a melon to know if it is going to be good/ready, for example. (Wash your damn produce!)

But ha, you just brought back my experience in college summering in a Euro country (ages ago). It was getting to the end of the summer and my funds were low, so I was basically living on 1-2 pieces of fruit during the day and a modest dirt-cheap meal for dinner. Went to an open-air market in a fast-paced and often grumpy euro capital for fruit and was picking up the nectarines to feel for ripeness/ firmness, as you do in US grocery stores. The merchant was so completely annoyed by my touching the fruit and, I think, an inferred thought that I was suggesting that not everything he was selling was of good quality, that he picked them for me and that was that. They were perfect and delicious, but similar in a us grocery store might or might not have been ready to eat. It was a good cultural lesson. But in the US/not at fruit stands, there is reason to inspect the produce, for both under-and over-ripeness. (Wash your produce!)

This is on parents. I have spent a lot of time teaching my (zoomer) kids how to interact with commercial edtablishments, from sole proprietors to massive companies. Mostly it’s about the larger providers - how to get service, complaint resolution, what to ask for, etc. So much of life now has the potential for interaction with “customer service” - way more than when I was their age. Stupid, but being able effectively and non-combatively to get answers and resolutions is a real part of everyday life these days. (I know you were making a larger point, but being able to communicate with people on important things they need is something very young people can evade/miss due to the increasingly automated world.)
