It's probably at least partially the fault of youtube. They've gotten increasingly sensitive over the past few years, and he probably came to the conclusion that it would be easier to put on the catboy ears and uwu avatar than it would be trying to force YouTube to remonetize and reupload a video that has a naughty word or a 3 second music clip. Not to mention he was almost certainly pulling content from the Farms, which has recently gained the mainstream reputation of being objectively worse than monkey torture and ISIS recruitment.

I think this is the real truth of the matter tbh. It’s not that he’s not doing DTRH, it’s that he used a resource that other people have determined is bad and instead of realizing that it’s just like 4chan in that the farms are basically one of the last anon institutions on the internet, he decided to use it for profit then decry it so he can still suck the gorlcock.

I don't know if Tom got lucky and sucked up into the algorithm or what but some of his recent videos came up on my front page and have pretty crazy view counts given the niche subject matter.

Some of his older videos are alright but I tried watching a recent one and its unwatchable. He started doing some retarded thing with his voice where he puts too much emphasis on certain words and sounds like some spastic valley girl. Its super grating and I literally cannot listen to more than a minute.

I quite enjoy Beige Frequency as another youtube documentary person, though the subject matter is a bit all over the place and might not be for everyone. He hasn't come out as a gay furry yet as far as I know, hope I didn't just jinx it. Also liked Dank Net but he hasn't put out a video in years, hope that nibba still alive.

Turkey Tom has a tedious, droning voice and his videos have the same issue as the Geno Samuel doc on Chris Chan where there's no attempt at narrative, just "on x date, y happened" like a high school history report.

Beige Frequency is a good comparison because, like old Knudsen, his videos use facts to tell stories. The Jon Jones videos are an example: It's segmented as a rise and fall story, with focus on important events like the Daniel Cormier rivalry and the PEDs scandals. A Turkey Tom version would just be "then Jon Jones crashed his car, then Jon Jones failed a drug test, then Jon Jones smacked his girlfriend and headbutted a cop car. Wow, what a crazy guy. The end."

I really enjoy most his videos up to the Wings one. All the ones after that were just too boring of subject matters for me to pay attention. I remember watching one of his IRL videos for the first time in like 2018, even then thinking that he looked like a gay nerd that was into autistic stuff. It isn't surprising that he's gone down this path, but it is still disappointing. Guess I'll just cross him off the list of watchable people...

I still like his old stuff though.

He's not remorseful, he's just trying to figure out a way to parlay his DtRH series into recurring profit with less effort. Streams are usually how people accomplish that, and vtubers are the current thing.

That subject came up in the Multimedia thread, I can imagine when he was still remembered he pulled good money each stream, but I doubt it's still applicable after he burned so many bridges. Being a vtuber in the end of 2023 is about as late and gay as it gets in a very competitive market, and the last statistics we had, he is beaten by the titty streamer that's also part of the gay collab. He streams like 20 hours a week, that's like half a work week, no fucking way it's easier than just doing his old shit where he could have had a Patreon with a guaranteed income and work on what he wanted rather than catering to resident whales.
