I don't know which one is worst to be honest, part of me wants to say TF2 for the fact the community is now so thin skinned they have to ban people themselves with skript kiddie shit. this is why i don't view nu-tf2 players as any better than overwatch fags, as most nu-tf2 players only started playing around 2020 and try to act like old fags.

I can not say too much of Overwatch players since I never played the game but Nu tf2 is just awful it became Reddit (shitty memes , horrible cosmetics , troons , furries and smugness). I've seen profiles with pronouns in them for some reason and getting offended when a bot say nigger.
It has been nearly 6 years since Jungle Inferno and I do not think Valve is going to be in the effort / the resources to fix the bots and make new content since the community has been doing that.

A now long-defunct internet forum I was part of circa 2009-2012 had a guy shell out for a private server for a few months. I can honestly say it was an incredible time that is among my most cherished memories.

Part of me wonders if there are any other refugees from that forum who wandered to Kiwi Farms.

I was a directionless burnout youth at the time and any sense of community at all felt emotionally heightened. It helped that I had about 100 hours in the game when we started and a lot of the people who started playing with us were brand new. It was nice to be King Heavy for a while.

I still think there's potential in a KF TF2 Classic server where everyone makes a throwaway steam account. Hell, Null or someone else could host it. I can't imagine that a 15 year old game server is particularly hardware intensive, it just takes the networking and security know-how.

As someone who started playing TF2 within a year of the game's release I miss the olden days so much. Only unique community servers where you knew all the regulars, dumb as shit scandals (the halo, the Golden Wrench drop fixing), and actual excitement for what the next class update will bring. I think the death of old TF2 came not with the Uber F2P update in 2011 but with the introduction of Valve dedicated servers and quickplay a year later. Within a year of quickplay nearly all of my favorite servers turned into ghost towns and the game has never felt the same since. 2fort2furious, rest in peace you magnificent bastard.

tf2classic ran a few 2007 style servers, but I do not believe they're still up. The initial version of tf2 just isn't appealing to modern day players beyond a curiosity of seeing how far its come. The 360 version still gets players, but the ps3 version recently had its servers shutdown. Thinking about it, it's a damn shame that the only playable versions of the game are how it was upon release and how it is today, all those versions with simpler loadouts and cosmetics, completely lost to time.

A few updates ago they added an automatic server blacklist due to fake servers clogging up the server browser. I'm sure they would add a farms server to it.

I just miss the community servers where I played Balloon Races as a noob. That map design might have been gimmick-y, but it was leaps and bounds ahead of the curve.

I don't care too much for or against the sanitization of TF2 caused by content creators because that doesn't really have any meaning to me. One thing I do feel is that many content creators who facilitated a certain playstyle usually aren't particularly great at the game in general, or even the very playstyle they encouraged others to emulate, and their success is only due to the sheer quantity of their content rather than quality. Soundsmith is overwhelmingly mediocre at the game and, in my opinion, also content creation. I recall seeing a few videos where he tries (or outsources) editing and animation and his sense of humor is just the standard "Youtuber who occasionally screams in between being snarky and pretending to have self-awareness." His videos don't really hold my attention much but they seem to always be on 2fort which is as boring to watch as it is to play.

Soundsmith lazily camping on CTF maps is only entertaining to him because he does it with friends, which isn't a shock because even getting waterboarded is more fun with friends. The new players who emulate him contribute absolutely nothing to the game and generally act way more salty than other players with the same playtime. Campy 2fort is just SecondLife with occasional murder. His highlight reels are just that: highlight reels. You don't see the hours upon hours of him staring at a respawn timer or his gameplay indistinguishable from any other player's as he and his friends sit in silence or discuss their breakfast. It's partially why I can't stand watching streamers be mediocre at games, as well.
