A new episode of B&R came out about this yesterday. Jesse speculates that Sam's screaming and interruptions was his way of buying time for the producer guy to google stuff and pass it along to Vigeland, but it didn't work because it became clear that Jesse knew more about the papers and statistics they threw at him, forcing Sam to scream a while more at the producer turned back to google. If they stayed on any one of those things for too long it would become obvious to the audience that they didn't know anything about him or his writing except for what they'd heard on Twitter.

Jesse is wrong about them agreeing on a lot, though. The only thing these people believe is that the most extreme positions that tranny activists assume on Twitter are automatically correct and Jessie, because he wants more data, is admitting that he doesn't think that talking a doctor into ciutting off a chi;d's dick is always a great idea.

I don't even need to watch it to know that's what happened. You can see these types doing that on Twitter and everywhere else all the time. This probably is a huge part of their sense that they know everything there is to know because they can just pop something into Google and repeat the first sentence they see that agrees with them then they can waste everyone's time arguing about the specifics of that sentence. 99% of the people they talk to will never know about the topic enough to dispute anything. This is presumably why they tardrage so fast, they can't even comprehend that there's well known arguments about this stuff and that people can be well informed about all of it so as to already know and skip all that to get down to brass tacks.

It's fun to torment and setup these people by walking them into something that makes them look completely stupid, but Jesse's usually too nice to do something like that. The fucking asshole. It'd make me want to murderdoxrape him except Rowling told us all he's off limits because of how essential he is to the international fascist plan.

That's one of his biggest problems imo. He still thinks he can win these people over by being polite, calm, and rational. Katie understands that once someone decides you're literally Hitler they will never admit that might be right about anything. Jesse hasn't figured that out yet.

He did get a little spicy in the latest BARPod episode. "Emma [Vigeland] doesn't know, 'cause knowing stuff is a challenging thing for her."

Dunno if I agree with that. He’s not naive. He knows he can’t persuade these muppets, but he can make them look like assholes to at least some of their fans. I believe some of that podcast’s fans were expressing disquiet in whatever online ghetto they favour. Other possible motivations: if you wish people would engage in good faith and reasoned argument, it helps to model that behaviour, and he gets off on enraging others through sweet reason.And of course there’s this:

I enjoy watching MR fans be low IQ sycophants making fools of themselves after a close friend who was a long time MR fan sperged out and ended the friendship largely because of my views on troons. I had patiently sent him articles about what is being done to kids which he never read, and explained my views again and again. (and I was not the one bringing it up with him.) every time we talked about it he would understand my concerns, and then would seemingly forget about them after returning to consuming whatever media is telling him i'm evil. He didn't know any trans people unlike me, was just upset about his progressive worldview being questioned which was more important than a friendship of talking daily for several years, and the wellbeing of autistic kids (like he once was).

They didn't give Gays against Groomers a fair shake, even suggesting that if you call out grooming behaviour by places of business someone might hurt someone and then it will be your fault, while in the same breath accusing GAG of fear mongering. I'm sure GAG isn't a perfect organisation but come on.

Does anyone know why they are so obsessed with hating James Lindsay? I know he was a massive troll and a bit of a wanker on social media before he got banned everywhere, but his work is incredibly interesting even if you don't 100% agree with his interpretations. Katie thinks that meeting with a few legislators means that a group has a lot of juice, so even though she's trying to be sceptical of the most hyperbolic claims of GAG's opponents, she still buys into it somewhat. A lot of her critiques of GAG are really only critiques of Q and the kind of shit the post-Q community makes up. GAG has utility to the kind of people who melt down when they hear that there are pamphlets on safe sex for gay teenagers available in the school nurse's office, but still don't want to be called homophobic, which is all that makes them unique.

See @AirdropShitposts video. It was basically a disagreement over whether Biden would be a moderate or be led around by his progressive handlers. *I* think it's clear Jesse was naive about this and Bret and James were right, even if they are wrong about other things.

Basically Bret Weinstein and James Lindsay told him how "equity" got baked in as an ideal among progressives in underhanded ways, because for some reason Jesse could not believe that any progressives could actually be bad people, down to the root. Or that motte-and-bailey argumentation is the norm when trying to get "equitable" ideas put into practice. It succeeds precisely because it sounds good but is implemented in a way that is counter to equality before the law. The people putting it in place know this, or at least cannot hear criticism without immediately discounting it as bigotry. Bret was on the receiving end of this when he was hounded out of his university for merely suggesting that having a day where no white people were allowed on campus was a bad idea.

Related to the Gays Against Groomers episode, James popularized "ok groomer" (after this discussion, I think). Jesse thinks this is mean.

The short version is Jesse has Gell-Mann Amnesia syndrome where he sees how far trans activists will go to distort the facts around their issues, but he can't see how the same tactics have been applied to causes HE supports and why that might make people de-convert from liberal worldviews once they spot it.

Spoiler: Longer rambling

James Lindsay is a brawler who did his homework on critical theory and postmodernism and the history of queer theory to the same autistic extent that Jesse has examined the science of transition. Jesse is still in the phase where he doesn't want to believe any of what James writes about is true, that critical theorists DO actually want to annihilate the nuclear family and impose a racialized view of the world, that they don't care about due process, that their founding thinkers were, to a man, pedophiles........ this all smacks of crass conspiracy to him, even though he knows that the same people call him a conspiracist for reading the primary sources on his topic du jour.

James and Jesse are both Twitter-addicted and you can argue to what degree that has sullied their work or distracted people from their good points, but they both started out as pie-eyed liberals and James kept writing and trying to make sense of the world through a darker blackpill than Jesse has ever faced. Jesse doesn't understand how people could actually diagnose LIBERALISM as what got us to this point, or how these ideas were smuggled in from the beginning. He CAN'T entertain it even briefly. So James is a useful foil for him, someone very like him, but grosser, who he can point to and say, "See, I'm not HIM. I'm still Good!" And he's only gross in the sense that he has given up trying to talk to progressives in good faith, ever.

I consider being 100% on board with the team of your choice and opposed to serious engagement with your enemies to be a sign of a writer who has been audience captured, not a serious thinker. Jesse contrasts with him not because he is more liberal, but because he makes an effort to approach things with an open mind, while Lindsay starts out already knowing what the truth is. One man can persuade, while the other preaches to the choir.

Lindsay only stopped engaging because the woke activists and theorists refused to engage seriously with him. He started trolling because the people he tried to have fair discussions with were only there to spout their ideology or piss him off, so they could make him look bad when he lost his temper. The exact same thing activists do to Jesse all the time. Jesse and James made different choices, but choosing to no longer engage isn't a sign of weakness. Why not spend your time on people you can convince instead of getting angry at disingenuous assholes?

Also there are plenty of things Jesse does not approach with an open mind, given his drag queen story hour good, MAPs good, attitudes.

Edit: I should note that I appreciate both Jesse and James' work and approaches (and they both have their blindspots, not just Jesse), I just find it a shame that they can't seem to meet in the middle somehow.
