No, my numbers have become more precise. It was originally, the weekend I started calculating the public-facing (now private) hotline.translifeline.org that we saw 19% coverage. Since they've made it private and I gained access to their internal numbers, I've refined that number to about 13% with more accurate statistics.

On that note, I've configured the bot to make this tweet once a day at noon.

And no, this is not static.

I actually wrote code to accurately pull 0s from the database every day at noon.

Interesting how a combination of mandated reporter laws and the policies of TLL have made it so literally no actual qualified person to counsel anyone could become a volunteer. Maybe you're someone who had a bad time in early transition and thought about offing yourself, got help, got better, and decided to get a counseling degree to help other people like you, and you want to volunteer your free time to a cause like this. Maybe you're a pedo teacher like Richard Jones. Either way, if you follow their procedure, you'll be violating the law every time you fail to report suspected abuse, and putting any professional licensing or certification at risk.

It's kind of an amazing way to disqualify everyone who might be useful or be able to train people better or even know that better training is needed. Bravo. This one weird trick will make your suicide hotline useless instantly!

Still, maybe it's worth it to their sycophants, because the few people at the center of the TLL clique are truly living the dream, the one which all other ratkings long for. They're able to maintain totally workshy attitudes, taking teenager-style road trips across the country and meeting celebrities, getting quoted by people and honored as being these ultimate self-sacrificial altruists trying their hardest to end the suicide epidemic plaguing their community. And they're making the princely sum of $22-28k per year, which could be as much as twice as much as a normal Tugboat Prince or Princess can make from SSI. Think of all the action figures / cartoon animal costumes with strategically-placed flaps / Steam games you could buy with that, as long as you still lived with six roommates when you're 35!

Even a merely questionable charity, when their scammy behavior was publicly on display in minute detail, would try to step up their game and at least pretend to be a real charity, actually answering their fucking fake hotline during advertised hours at least.

Exactly. Only a few selected individuals can really participate directly on this business. The other trans people are used as puppets.

They are failing at their purpose and there is nothing about TLL worth saving apart from the idea. Their training materials suck, so they don't have a pool of highly trained volunteers which would be lost if they disbanded. They haven't managed to secure any significant funding which would disappear from tran.s projects if they shut down. They have not created any novel resources. They're software engineers and they haven't even tweaked the open source software their hotline uses so that it can transfer calls, forward calls, or give alternate numbers.

Digging under the service shows that they're not "a valid resource". They're a vanity project run by a couple of megalomaniacs who are only good at producing publicity for themselves - publicity which is not translating into actual resources for tran.s people. Two years on, they're as inadequate as a crisis service as the day they opened. It exists first and foremost as a vehicle to fund Greta and Nina travelling around the country socialising.

There were sixty-six missed calls in that time. The sad thing is, the call whose details I've omitted in this screencap is definitely well worth a charity. I'd say having a sort of charity for visiting seniors in homes in general would be worth it. I'm sure they exist. God knows how many other completely legitimate calls are completely fucking lost in that time where no one was online.
