You know, I wasn't expecting Jim to give the most damning condemnation of Unity out of any commentator, but he did. Unity devs being fans of the Jimquistion is the worst accusation I've heard since this whole thing started.

That seems to be the trajectory of anyone with a modicum of intelligence that stays in video games media long enough. Jim, despite how laughable his life is and the poor decisions he's made, falls under that category, as one can be of high intelligence while possessing next to no wisdom. I think that part of the reason is the nature of the games industry and the type of games that are being made. When you look at film or literature, you see some things that are spectacular entertainment, others that are meant to enlighten the consumer, and others that are a mixture of the two. You don't really get that with video games; they are almost purely entertainment. I imagine that if one stays in that sort of environment long enough, it leaves one feeling somewhat empty, especially if they don't have something important to get them to wake up every day, like religion, family, or a general drive to see oneself grow. Jim has none of that, so he has retreated into meaningless bullshit while winging it on his gaming content.

3kliksphilip, CounterStrike autist extraordinaire, had a really good video on this where he argued that unity lowered the floor so absolute retards could make a game if they wanted to thus give the perception that Unity makes shitty games even though its ease of use allowed hundreds of other teams to make pretty good games with smaller teams and less budget. Its the sort of hard hitting thought that you would expect from a games-journalist and not a guy who does in depth CS videos.

It was some time again since it's hayday but didn't UE3 do a similar thing of reducing the bar of entry and became the shovelware engine of choice because of it?

Yeah the comments talk about that and mention that that's how its always been a new game making tool comes out thats easier to use a bunch of shit gets made and every one calls the tool shit, its evidently been this way since the amiga days.

I for one am completely surprised that Jim Sterling doesn't know this. He always does such amazing research into his topics. He's also such a mentally well individual who will live to see 100 thanks to his healthy life style.

Calling it now: Monday's Jimquisition will about about the Unity apology and backtracking. He will take what should be an easy talking point of Unity only backing off because they could lose money, and turn it into how you can never forgive game developers ever because they don't deserve it, with talking points being Scott Cawthon (who is too Christian to be good in Jim's eyes), Zenimax firing a transgender employee (for being toxic to the workplace but that doesn't matter), and Youtube for suppressing minorities. It will be 17 and a half minutes long.

You forgot to mention on how he'll mention that this is all a typical move from the big bad corporations to oppress people like him and get absolutely no backlash for it, but this time it failed because people (especially him, it'll be like a minute of flaunting how great he is now) are too smart to fall for this bullshit, even though he's just decried other people before for similar reasons calling them too stupid for their own good.
