Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

There was even a point where I entered another universe where I found Vlad cradling my dead body, and I got to tell him that collecting the Artifacts wasn't worth it.

But yeah, then at the end everyone is pushing for me to take them to the Unity. Sam even got pissed when I said it was stupid to bring his daughter because we have no fucking idea what's going to happen.
You'd think they'd explore the horrors of living a literal cyclical quantum loop, constantly hunting for literal fucking rocks against people wearing your face, being touted as a god yet being limited by laws even simpler than humanity has to live with, having to kill people that look like loved ones with the very real possibility that they ARE the people you love - warped by the morass of the ages into something more and less than what they were, and the question of whether you're human or not - or the people parading as a facsimile of humanity are humans or just literal talking apes.
Not to mention the question of what the hell happens to your family and friends in the world you just left? Your poor parents will never see their son again? And are you just another version of yourself when you change universes? Does that mean you're sharing a bank account with that universe's actual version of yourself?

I think this is what irks me the most. I don't think you even get to tell your parents you're leaving them. Plus the fact that the game tries to make you feel stupid for rejecting the ending and staying in your universe.

Considering you don't get to tell them if you get married or invite them to the fucking wedding, I'm not surprised
That was so damn stupid. The fact you can tell them there's someone you like early on and not have any follow up is a massive oversight. The whole implementation of your parents is pretty half baked. It's like three conversations and a few encounters.

This game has one of the worst endings I've seen in a while. Even the motives for wanting to be a starborn are so dumb. Nothing that happens past the first encounter makes me want to even consider collecting the rest of the artifacts. I think the worst thing is how after the death of one of the companions, everyone around you expresses doubt at continuing, and 90% of the time, you can't even agree with them. You have to keep pushing towards the end in your conversations. Then suddenly everyone is all for reaching the end, and push you towards entering the unity. Even when you decide to return, everyone tries to tell you it's inevitable. I get it's to push the new game+ mechanic, but the writing gives me whiplash.
100%. There are very clear pre-determined (and often singular) outcomes that your character has to adhere to, completely ruining the RP aspect as most quests have very linear story progressions that the multiple dialogue choices do little to hide. Too often I'll be helping some incompetent space huck or some UC affiliated scum and the game will only give me compassionate, lawful good dialogue options and actions for them. I'm trying to be an amoral mercenary pirate, I don't want to sympathise with these assholes I just want to earn creds and maybe rob them, but compassionate hero dialogue is the only choice I'm given.

The only reason I hunted the artifacts was to meet aliens, not some “deep alternate dimension” shit they probably shoehorned in last minute for NG+ and so they could say “Look guys, it’s NOT aliens!! Pretty big twist eh? Did we get ya yet??”. I was really hoping for those aliens, at first I thought the vanguard and UC would sort of parody Starship Troopers, but no, just another shitty job where your character does all the work. My favorite quest in the game is easily the StarSeed one with the clones, THAT felt like a classic sci-fi adventure and it’s only one quest, whereas the main story can be boiled down to simple fetch quests, and then it abruptly ends with your character either dying of old age or being reborn and becoming essentially a god. Also I noticed that the ending bore some striking similarities with Cyberpunk’s, especially with the whole “go live your life and die or join unity forever and have all the knowledge of the universe” choice. Overall I liked a few characters but they all felt under utilized, like The Hunter being the priest instead of just the main character, I don’t know about you guys but when they tried the whole reveal of who The Hunter was I couldn’t care less as I didn’t give a single fuck about some priest on a planet I barely visit outside of the main quest.

I went to them before I left, and the dad kept talking about having "to take the leap" or something. I wasn't sure if he was referring to getting married or going through the Unity or what.

When you go through the Unity, you can meet your (not) parents and get a Starborn dialog about how you never thought you'd see them again though, and they just treat you like a crazy person. I have no idea how they react in New Game+ scenarios where your other version isn't dead when you arrive.

I really don't know what the fuck they were thinking with the main quest. All this time spent on a story that is simultaneously lazy as fuck and utterly meaningless. What a waste of time.

Typical Bethesda. An interesting idea half implemented because they got lazy or didn't think it through all the way.

Saw a comment under a starfield review that said that every companion is basically Jacob from Mass Effect, and it's painfully true.
Well when you're deathly afraid of offending someone for anything and everything you simply can't write anything except bland guy A or bland guy B.

Can't have feminine women, can't have competent men. You've already lost a ton of variety right there.

You know what really sucks? All Starfield is doing is making me want to play Skyrim for the 15th time.
I started a new playthrough a couple days ago. It's actually insane how much better a game from 2012 is.

It has a better open world and less loading screens too which is just nuts to think about.

It's crazy how Outer Worlds is better than Starfield in everyway that matters. Even the biggest complaints, those being "ugly dykes" are nothing compared to the mutt-topia that is New Atlantis and half of the known galaxy in Starfield.
Outer Worlds is also an actual RPG, where as Starfield is just Fallout 4 in space but with even worse/less RPG elements, if that's possible.
At this point, if Obsidian can deliver on Outer Worlds 2(confirmed to be in development) being even moderately better than the original, it will make this game look like a joke.
I know not a lot of people like that game, but somebody had to say it.

If I could hit TIE Fighters with an old joystick when I was eight, modern players can certainly hit a flying space-bus with a kb+m or Xbox controller. We need to stop catering to shit players.

Yeah, went through the all-day trouble of getting my mods set up right and the difference is stark. Even the vanilla stuff is miles ahead of Starfield. Bethesda really has lost it.
