It's great that John is hyping up these genderfucks. I wonder which piece of practical advice he can give to these struggling young coomers: that they just need to get their parents to throw a quarter million+ dollars at them, or to just go find an industrious chink in screaming cargos to carry them off into the sunset.

I have a theory of why so many troons failed to clock him. Though I am surprised to learn that it was not common knowledge that this creature was a troon.

Now I'm going to write it up to being a combination of several factors that will have different weights for different people, but likely are what allowed the deception to work:

1. No overt queer-culture bullshit. The modern batch of genderspecials constantly try and own their "queer identity". Wu rarely bought up the bisexuality and that's about it. Most of what Wu was known for was being part of a feminist movement, and not an LGBT movement.
2. Sometimes the gaydar gives you a false positive. This just happens. I am sure if you are not a complete shutting and social degenerate you have ran into one or two people who you were very confident were probably something LGBT, but no they were just some random cis straight guy which pings the gaydar like nobody's business. Anytime somebody called him out for being a tranny and he denied it, people just decided that it was a false positive. Especially when the current crop loves to own their trans identity rather than trying to be women they try to be transwomen. You know, better than women.
3. The lie was just repeated until truth. If you say something confidently enough and enough times everyone will believe it.
4. Edit: Autistic face blindness. I always forget how powerful it is.

I think it’s mostly number 4, given how many troons just shove a wig and a dress on and call it a day.

But I think there is, bizarrely, an element of wishful thinking to it. As in, they accept that Wu is cis because they want to believe that someone who looks like that could be a biological woman, because that means that they too could pass.

It has been so long since GobberGate that i think thats a good summary, but from what i remmeber troons were still a emerning thing, back then ones in charge of the noise were feminists, thats maybe why Wu wanted to be seen as a "cis" women, back then they still had more social capital than troons did

Yes, I think this has much to do with Wu's ability to fake it until he makes it.

For the vast, vast majority of people, they'll come across the name "Brianna Wu" in an article or social media post, assume that it's a woman by the name and accompanying female pronouns, and that's it.

The next biggest group consists of those who have heard of Wu often enough to remember him as an internet person (especially during the time of Gamergate) and perhaps a wannabe politician. Again, it's likely that they only read about Wu framed as a bona fide woman, and though they may have seen some pictures of him, they don't pay close attention and just pass him off as an ugly woman, or maybe they just saw the carefully-crafted motorcycle pictures. I could've bought into that, especially since you rarely see pictures of him next to other people. While there were trannies like Wu a decade ago at the onset of Gamergate, they were so rare and out of the public consciousness that the possibility of Wu being a man all along wouldn't cross one's mind.

Then there's the people who are even more aware of Wu enough to begin suspecting that something is up, and that's where they run into trouble. Because in their social circles, it's impossible to pop the question without coming off as offensive. To ask if Wu is trans means that either you're "outing" him, or you're implying that he's an ugly enough woman to be mistaken for trans (as well as implying broadly that trannies don't pass). And if you do ask the question anyway and are inevitably met with the answer "No, she's cis," you especially cannot broach the subject any further, suggesting that Wu has been lying about this all along. You might google about it, but then you'll worry about getting disinfo from "transphobes" talking shit, and if you come across the name John Walker Flynt, you absolutely cannot bring it up as a point of consideration since that would amount to the high crime known as "deadnaming".

This is all a unique situation because you never see a known public figure who outright hides and denies being a tranny like Wu does.
