Somebody more familiar with visual novels, please tell me, are there any that have cost over a million bucks to make? I know there are some popular ones that have probably turned into franchises worth quite a lot of money, but did any have their very first unproven entry with a budget that size? It just seems baffling to me. I'm willing to admit I'm totally ignorant of the genre at large, so maybe they really do require that much, but GVH certainly doesn't seem like the game to have that kind of budget.

You know, they probably could have saved a lot of money if they didn't go for that insane animation style they did where every character is divided into a hundred individual pieces and then stitched together.

While I think there was more funding than just the leafbux, it is intensely on brand for the alpha chads (she/her) in charge of a project like this to take the money and get the other credits on board mostly with the progressive version of 'for exposure', 'but it's for the cause!'.

That's not how it works, steam marks review bombs and sometimes excludes them from the final score, but they are still visible and they are specifically marked. If you check reviews over time, it has a big ass notification over periods of unusual activity saying "These reviews are unusual so they are excluded, but if you want to read them feel free and you can see how many are positive and negative."

Its way better than what 99.99% of review sites do.

Apparently KO_OP "is 10 people" (https://www.vice.com/en/article/8xy...r-isnt-radical-this-studios-done-it-for-years). It's an old-fashioned workers' co-operative, so what they really mean is they have 10 directors and any number of contractors. They all get the same salary, which I think is $55k CAD.
Even if they were very frugal, which we know they're not, there's no way this cost less than $3 million.

I think it's from the OST, but I'm not 100% sure. I don't really listen to indie rock/whatever you call that genre of music, but I will give Ko_Op that the OST is the best part of their game. Even if it is pretty mild and vanilla.
