There appear to be two reasons behind the freakout. The first is that he appeared to slight Nick's legal prowess by calling him a non-practicing lawyer. The second was that by saying a word in a way Nick could not understand, he wounded Nick's impression of himself as an honorary black man because he lived in a diverse neighborhood in Houston.

While the word "narcissist" has been thrown around here a lot, last night's stream was the first time that that theory seemed to click for me at all. It seems like his perception of himself was wounded by July in ways that appear extremely mild to an outside observer but caused him to go off the handle. I am starting to feel bad for those close to him.
