I've shown the NSFW channels in tech discords to coworkers and people in my network and they had no idea this was an issue. The one data archival discord had the standard memes, cursed/nsfw memes, and nsfw channels. What I noticed was the people pushing for those lived on that server. The only tech discord with 50+ I was in that didn't have this was a japanese cybersec discord that had IRL meetups.
Project Mana has a small group of people who live in general chat despite the server being about video game archival and general hardware/console hacking. You cannot say anything because they are friends with the mods or have become a mods.

Try looking at some of these people's Steam account profiles. I've seen the animated anime girls in latex so many times on tech professional Steam profiles.

Cloudflare wasn't the first and isn't even the biggest known name in the cybersecurity and ddos protection world. Companies like Akamai and Imperva are far more widely used in businesses. Cloudflare is the usual Silicon Valley "Scale fast and think about profits later", so while those well known names mostly service business customers, Cloudflare protected everyone, mom and pop stores and every tiny forum.

So no, the internet wouldn't have crashed without them. But them securing every tiny idiot gives this dude some kind of savior complex.
