Spotted this in the store, my brain has been so warped I wanted to burst out laughing at the sight of it.

A previous house I lived in had these fucking things in it. One started chirping in the middle of the night outside of my room and I lost my shit trying to remove the nonexistant battery. I ended up crushing it with a chair.

Right before the 10 years is up the smoke detector detonates a small explosive hidden inside. Utterly obliterating the device before it ever had a chance to CHIRP.
One of the things I find funny about the meme and yet nobody is saying anything about it; smoke detectors actually wear out after 10 years and need to be replaced entirely. Old ones you can just replace the battery but many smoke detectors are wired and will still chirp with a perfectly new battery. Many years ago I worked in a hardware store and had to tell too many customers this "surprising" fact. Although I do wonder if this is something Kidde/First Alert says to force people to buy more product or not...

Most smoke detectors use Americium 241 as a radioactive source, so they will pack up eventually: The half-life is ~430 years though, so I would think they'd last a bit longer. It might be some bullshit regulation they pushed through to keep people shopping.
