Fans assumed that their NFT project is a part of TryHards: the series where Nerd City infiltrates an industry/trend to expose it from within. However no crypto series came and the NFT project had seemed to quietly fade away. The YouTube channel released a video about JayStation in early 2022 and for over 1.5 years that was Nerd City's last video.

UNTIL TODAY! The video that was released 12 hours ago is what looks like a remnant of the promised crypto TryHards - an expose on Gary Vee. It's a good expose but you'd have to ask - what makes this one so different that you'd justify waiting 1.5-2 years for it? Well, what makes it so different from other exposes on crypto-shills and scammers is that in the end Nerd City argues that actually, NFTs are good and the real problem is that wrong, bad, immoral people are shilling them!

But in the comments, oh man. He responds to many (oh yes) in a massively passive-aggressive way, up to and including malding about other people having more upvotes than he does. It's not a good showing. There's a lot of very mild comments where someone disagrees with him in a milquetoast way, and homie just comes out yawping. The latest video, meant to address the reaction to the earlier one, has a lot of that same energy and even includes the vaunted promise to ban people who don't participate in 'discussion' the way that he happens to like.

My hope is that the guy calms down, takes a step back, just cools off. Might be he's just got no stomach for the pushback editorializing has, might be he learns to just throw it out there and then not worry about the aftermath, might be he learns to stop himself before he starts raging at upvotes. But it might also be that he keeps chimping out and makes a circus out of something he's clearly put a lot of work and passion into.

I remember many years ago people were criticizing one of his videos on a Reddit thread and he was there replying to anyone who said anything bad with an awful, smug retort. This also happened in his now-removed sponsored mobile game videos; which were misleadingly titled, and involved embarrassing work-arounds to the script to avoid saying mobile MMO. Since he understandably doesn't consider shitty mobile MMOs with no player engagement as real MMOs. But when called out for these things, he'd sperg out in the comments to each and every person.

Unfortunately he's always been a massive sperg, no surprise for a guy whose life is MMOs. But he's been doing it increasingly openly for for the last two years. Frankly, even if some of his new DOAG he sounds like he's about to blow a gasket when he talks about particular scummy practices a company has done. No way he becomes a full-fledged cow, but something is cooking with him.

I usually don't tune in because I don't find him to be a good off-the-cuff entertainer, far better with structured and edited content, but I wanted to see what he'd get up to here.

Yeah, the segment in the livestream started with him going "I'm confrontational, I've always been confrontational, people who disagree with me just don't understand that I'm confrontational and they're too stupid to understand that I've always been confrontational" or something to that rambling effect. He went on about Meyers-Briggs and how he knows it better than anyone but professionals, and how he's ENTJ so how could you expect any different?

It's just a strange position, because if not for the spergouts, he's generally got the points to back up his position. He's not a great communicator - a lot of people aren't - but the comedy emerges from the fact that when he starts to stumble on supporting himself, there's a snap into that ur-redditor personality.

For example, one bone of contention that he had was that people mistake 'introverted' for 'antisocial.' Solid point - but he fails to expound on the difference (introverts need recovery from social behavior, but are not necessarily antisocial or awkward in social situations) and drifts into rambling about how people are just stupid and don't understand, or they didn't watch this one video he did 3 years ago where he specifically laid out this one point at this one timestamp but in his beneficence he'll go over it again for the benefit of the unenlightened... It's just kindof funny, because if he didn't throw in the snippy comment and just reiterated whatever he said (as all entertainers who serve as hosts have to do), it'd come off totally fine. It's like he genuinely can't see why sperging out puts people off.

Nerd City's always struck me not quite right, he's got fantastic production on his videos but there's just a certain vibe about him.
Also it's creepy how in a lot of his videos he's always clearly winking at you going "Hey there big guy, see my girl Nikki over there? Pretty hot huh? Wanna jerk off to her? I won't mind". It seems like NerdCity wants to make it so artists can create anything they want without being under the thumb of credit card and payment processing companies, and also without needing to draw obscene fetishes and/or children to get paid.
