After reading this thread I'm less and less inclined to believe he's done anything to actively harm her. It seems to be mostly wishful thinking. I doubt that he's lying about anything that is verifiable by police and bound to be released at some point. If he's lying, then hopefully, with time, the lies will unveiled by the investigation.
My take is that he has always been sociopathic, and a weirdo, so I don't get all the "why isn't he desperately searching for the mother of his children" outrage. I think even though he might've felt some kind of love towards her, it was condescending. She really wanted to leave and he's disappointed in her decision to leave, because it's irrational. He has no issues leaving her at a gas station and is dispassionate about the idea of her coming to harm through her own decisions past that point, because he's a cold autist and a darwinist. I can't help but feel that his relationship with her was kind of like that of an owner and their pet.
If your hyper-intelligent dog told you through Morse code that it wanted to try living on its own, would you let it? Probably no, this is the moral quandry.
There's a difference though, she's reportedly proven before that she can care for herself, unlike your hyper-intelligent dog.
Also, if he's not lying, I suspect he won't see any legal consequences.
As weirdly and suspiciously he puts all of the circumstances,
- He wasn't the last person to see her, and the police agree
- She left willingly, and was known to vanish before, her family agrees
- He has no legal guardianship over her
- She has no legal status as a retard, she's just another fully functional adult on paper. There's nothing that would automatically make him culpable for harm coming to her, as it would if she was his child or something.
- His idiotic way of putting "she has a digital trace separate from mine" might be actual fact that the police relayed to him
- He is the kind of autist to remodel his home without a care for the implication of his girlfriend leaving to live in the woods just before that
- This is not verified, but the report wasn't put in by relatives or friends of hers, as far as we know
I expect she's either dead or in some sort of hobo commune, or generally drifting. Is he morally culpable, if so? Most likely. Legally? Not likely. Do I think it's in the realm of possibility that he did something to her? Yes, but the fact that he was giving me serial killer vibes way before this all happened makes me think that it's a red herring, and people reinforcing the suspicion don't know him very well.
