If you think about it. He's right about comparing it to the civil war, he's just wrong about both incidents. Various similarities exist, including:

I understand Taiwan's economic links to the West and it being a loophole for chink money rules, but I will never understand why China fights so hard to hold Tibet, what a useless country. Ok so with a "fascist dictator" in power, a lot of libs were more open to the idea of working with socialist ,syndicalist and communist. The problem is now that Trump is out and Biden is in, the libs are happy with this arrangement and to them democracy is saved and life is radically better now.

The same thing happened under Obama, only then the vanguards of the left weren't communists but anti-war activists and New Dealers. There was a bitter rift among Democrats for Obama's entire administration by people who saw him as a con man who bailed out the banks and did nothing to help working people after 2008. It basically came to a head with the Bernie Sanders campaign and wokeism emerged as the ideal weapon to destroy that faction, who had no defense against it. The accusation of racism melted them like a salted slug.

This time the Dems are lot more reluctant about purging left dissidents, perhaps because they embraced extreme emotional irrationality in order to run off the anti-war types, so now their entire core activist base is made up of Hasan and Vaush types. During the Obama years the Dem establishment would make appeals to pragmatism to hush the activists, but they can't do that anymore because now their entire platform is anti-rational. Hasan doesn't live in the real world, what's he doing to do when the Democrats tell him to settle down and let the grown-ups handle things?

Someone should tell Hasan that the main lesson to be learned from recent Chinese, Tibetan and Turkish history is that ethnonationalism is the key to a prosperous nation and that minority ethnic populations of any size can be used as a wedge to break a country apart. Turkey removed Greeks and Armenians for political unity and China is doing the same thing in Xinjiang. Tibet wasn't able to exclude foreign invaders and now they're helpless in the grip of the Chinese. One look at Europe will tell you why China if anything is being too lenient with the Uyghurs.
