The third novel is nearly unreadable. The detecting part of the novel isn't half bad, but it is like 1/2 to 2/3s bullshit soap opera relationship & family drama.
It was so bad I tapped out after that one.
Holy shit yes. I really enjoyed the first two books and was hype for the third one. By the end I was more pissed off than any of the trannies could hope to be.
Especially that last chunk of it where it's just her self insert acting like a complete idiot and it's presented as if she was somehow in the right despite fucking up the whole investigation. Then it's all capped off with cheap romance bait. Completely killed my desire to read any more of the books.
Admittedly though, her turning it into her troon venting series kinda makes me want to go back to it and just speed through the retarded parts.
I’ve finished The Running Grave and was wondering what exactly the troons would find to seethe about this time.
The main thread of the plot is that a wealthy family hire the protagonists, Strike and Robin, to investigate a well financed cult their autistic son joined at the age of 19.
The autistic character (not the character referred to in previously posted screenshots as “retarded”) is portrayed in what feels like a realistic and sympathetic light, but without infantilising or idealising him. The fact he’s joined a cult because he’s vulnerable and prone to black and white thinking isn’t really relevant to their stupid argument, as there are plenty of non-autistics in the same cult who also got sucked in by their message of selflessness and universal love and understanding.
The “fat phobia” is just as described above- Strike (a middle aged amputee) has to lose weight because it is having an adverse effect on the ability to do his job because it is causing him pain.
The novel talks about weight loss a lot in the context of the cult, because the members are deprived of food and are doing hard labour. It is not portrayed as good and healthy.
In addition, there’s one other character who is described as obese, who is portrayed sympathetically, and her obesity is not written as avalue judgement but rather portrayed as a consequence of the severe trauma she had suffered.
The cult stuff is heavily based on real life religious cults, especially Scientology and Children of God, and you can tell JKR really did her research on how they operate. If this bears any resemblance to how the Troons act, then really thats on them.
I mean, trannies obviously didn't invent cults, but a lot of parallels can be drawn, whether it was intended by JKR or not. Especially the gay guy who gets punished for his genital preferences.
Also, it might mean nothing, but I noticed that she never used "gender" even in situations where most people would do it, such as "people of both sexes" and "it wasn't immediately clear which sex so-and-so was".
I think this is more of a rant post than anything substantial. It might also be powerlevel-y because I'm highly neurotic irl.
I became a member of a book club and I mentioned Quidditch in an unrelated comment about sports and it was within earshot of some tranny. A pill-popping, gore-obsessed creepy tranny.
In front of fucking everyone, it chewed me out and lectured me about how to be a righteous Harry Potter fan and talked about Rowling's grave sins or whatever and boycotts and shit.

They can believe whatever but I don't want to hear about it or them becoming political activists. I don't give a fuck about their exploits. I just want to enjoy myself.
But the druggie tranny went on and on and on about the badgering, the interrogation, basically dominating the entire room and it fucking... well didn't break me but it did cause me to have a panic attack.
I stood my ground but I felt so fucking trembling in the aftermath. All because I didn't want to get angry at JKR.

They caused me another episode of discomfort earlier this week when they were talking in explicit detail about cutting and how sexy it was. I've dealt with self-harm so it did horrible things to me emotionally to hear it sexualized and encouraged and seeing pictures of people who cut for them.
If I pay for them, it will be after I've read them. I mostly want to "see it for myself", and I am used to reading garbage so I might be OK haha. The way I pick books to start reading is autistic anyway.

When putting it like that, I do feel a little better about the situation. And slightly more terrified because I think the person didn't need to be a troon in order to scare others. They had that mass shooter look in their eyes like they were waiting for the perfect excuse to murder as many people as possible. And I'm also kinda irritated too because of my perceived lack of ethics.
Heaven forbid I don't get irrationally angry at JKR. Heaven forbid I enjoy her books and don't read offensive subtext in every page. How unethical.

You can't be the only member of the book club who is getting serial killer vibes from the guy. I bet a lot of others there are having second thoughts about being near him. That may work in your favor, although they may be afraid to speak up directly.
To be fair if you're not prepared you will probably be kind of speechless. The troon has tard rage on his side and your rebuttal has to be firm but rational. The game is easier on the troon's side.
