Bloodstained + Castlevania/Metroidvania - Or how I can't decide what this thread should be about

A lot of people don't understand that the criticism is that they bastardized an existing character to make this bait.

Why not make full original characters?

Why not make full original characters?
Because they know they'd be judged more harshly, and that they wouldn't have the excuse of saying the characters in canon were already blank slates, so it doesn't matter what they do to them.

Remember, not liking teh forced inclusivity for C O N S I D E R A T I O N A N D V A L I D A T I O N in Shitflixvania is T O X I C A N D S E L F D E S T R U C T I V E , also gamergate.

I say this about a lot of things but this push for diversity poisoned the well for actual diversity. I don't care if they like to suck dick, just make the story good. Also, who's Irina?

She's a character from a game he's making and still hasn't been released despite being almost 6 years since he announced it in Castlevania Dungeon.
Checked the site again, and he's angry, he's seething, he's doubling down, but many in the dungeon thread are not having it.

The "some people interpret something to be about [x]" argument is always so nebulous and stupid. I could interpret any work to be about anything and write enough meandering garbage to defend it in a post-modern sense. While I do agree that vampires and sexuality are linked, there's also a wide gap between a work exploring the universal idea of the alluring power of evil and "He stuck his FANG into the man's NECK and there was BLOOD! Don't you get it? It's a buttsex metaphor!"
(I also find it interesting that he lists Carmilla, given that the eponymous vampiress feeds on the protagonist in her bed for the first time when she's six years old. Wow, great inclusivity!)

There was once a time when i wouldve killed to have more Castlevania representation, a movie, a tv show, anything. Symphony and the GBA/DS titles are classics to me, and while not as good as the previous ones, i enjoyed the LoS saga.

God... Why...? Not like this...
Worry not child, you will live long enough to witness horrors beyond your comprehension.

All of nerdom becoming mainstream was the most monkey's paw wish I have ever seen.

Didn't the author of Fight Club shoot down the homoerotic readings of it because interpreting everyone as gay for each other was (paraphrasing from memory) "lazy and uninspired"?

And how the fuck is a straight man preying on a straight woman homoerotic? God, these people need jobs where they work with their hands and don't have time for that nonsense.

Is it really becoming mainstream that's the issue?

I mean, obnoxious fujoshis have been a thing for about two decades, and that's basically where half of Nu-rox's DNA comes from. I would say fujoshit is not quite mainstream.

The other half is excessive catering to black people. Which unfortunately is mainstream-ish.

I think the problem should be better conceptualized as not gatekeeping enough. Which is close, but not quite the same thing.

Yes, yes it fucking is, the moment you want to cater to everyone you cater to no one and suddenly the soul of everything dies. This doesn't even have to be about identity politics or nigger/faggot worship, this is just things losing what made them appealing to YOU because they suddenly want to appeal to somebody else. Going mainstream is the first big step in getting pozzed since it suddenly has everyone's eyes on you. Suddenly you can't be so crass, or so violent, or suddenly it's too goofy or too serious and so on.

Gatekeeping seems like the only way to keep shit under lock, but even then I have my doubts if it can be enough. Best example I can think of is From Software, they grow with each game they release, yet they manage to stick to their guns, but how long will that last? Will Bamco suddenly one day decide they need to appeal to western piggu more? Or maybe Miyazaki gets a well earned early retirement and the next guy that takes over wants to increase appeal by pandering instead of sticking to the "we do our shit and if people like it good, and if not, that's ok too, but we won't change things for you". And we are talking about From here, most companies or products fold and fold hard to increase reach.

I think that boils down to "wanting to grow the brand by any means."

Companies need to be satisfied with their dedicated fanbase and making good money, not AAA money. And especially not coomer money.

I mentioned fujoshit for a reason - Olrox's concept artist said they were happy with all the fanart of him, with a blushing emoji. Forced gay scenes and personally speaking in a cutesy uwu manner are hallmarks of the kind of person obsessed with LGBT bullshit. It's one of those "you can just tell" things.

How was someone like that allowed into the industry? A combination of events like that should have been impossible.
