I think you're equating modern military missiles with home-made rockets. Just because they had 5k rockets doesn't mean or require most of them to be high yield or anything more than firecracker levels. They just need to act as target saturation against the Iron Dome to overload its targeting system and make it run out of ammo.

The rockets and their launchers are small enough to be hidden in residential houses and garages and shit, you can pull them outside, set them up, and fire in less than five minutes in heavily built up areas. Even if spotted there wouldn't be enough time to do much
