Taliban technically didn't really "kick out" the US armed forces, simply waited them out, while we completely failed to realize that the "democractic" Afghan National Government and supposedly "professional" Afghan Army that we'd spend decades and trillions of dollars to set up, equip, and support would fold like a cheap house of cards the moment the fighting started again.

They were never meant to succeed. The US made a deal with the Taliban before they left. What people say is a failure because people die and governments collapse is a success by corporate standards.

Impossible to know, honestly. All we can do is go through the checklist of what the attack does and presume that all of it was intended;

1) Puts the fear of God in every Israeli
2) Galvanizes all of Hamas' supporters because it was pretty sucessful
3) Exposed the Israeli Army as far more retarded and less powerful than was previously believed, kills off some high-rankers
4) Gives Hamas a lot of bargaining chip hostages, including high-ranking military and civilians
5) Forces a reaction out of Israel and consequently out of every other country surrounding it (and Hezbollah)

How much of this was supposed to happen? What's the intended final effect? Nobody can really answer that other than Hamas high command and unfortunately I don't think any of them have KiwiFarms accounts

Why do you think there even would be "long term plans" with Palestinian terrorist organizations beyond "destroy Israel, ethnically cleanse it of Jews, and recreate ISIS there"? Hamas isn't doing this out of some deeply thought-out plan, they're doing this because they've gotten just enough weapons, equipment, and training to think that this current strike is going to be The Great Jihad that finally topples the Zionist entity for good.

My personal theory is that Hamas saw that Israel had been doing a pretty good job of normalizing relations with other countries in the region, particulalry Saudi Arabia, something that would lead to further Palestinian isolation, and decided to do a strike to galvanize the support of those countries' populations to put a wrench into the process.

Remember that the Saudi monarchs were placed there by the Brits post WWI and the local population tolerates them because all the oil money allows for a country wide NEET lifestyle. The Arab Spring should serve as a good reminder that event the most established people can fall in that particular region of the world.
