Yeah, religion aside we have the world's worst culture clash going on here. The Arab honor/shame culture permits no perceived humiliation or concessions. The European Jewish tactic over the centuries has been "lay low and adapt and accept restrictions on your freedom in order to survive, even if it means being kicked out of a town every 50 years or so." Modern Israeli culture rejects all that on the surface, but the fundamental "try to get along to survive" reasoning is still there. They can't survive alongside each other.

I don't know much, but:

One side is a westernized country with lots of European ancestry, very smart people achieving productive things, and has some degree of respect for women.

The other is brown barbarians whose life-purpose is breeding like rabbits (as if we need more of them in the world). Their only redeeming quality is being somewhat smarter than nig-nogs, although that might ultimately be a bad thing due to their penchant for nefariousness.

More on topic, according to a group text I apparently have some relatives currently in Israel visiting Jesus-sites. Paraphrasing, they haven't seen violence directly, but they're regularly hearing alarm sirens and evacuate into basements when they hear them. Streets are empty. They'll try to get out tomorrow if commercial airlines are still flying.

If true I highly doubt this will lead to a conflict between the two states as Syria is severely weakened due to the civil war and Turkish occupation, and will also have to contend with the complicating factor of UN peacekeepers between them and Israel. However, it does suggest that tensions are very high right now in Israel's North.

For the most part just looks like a squabble that is common for that area; I doubt many countries will intervene and put boots on the ground, including the US, even if a few neighboring Arab countries send mercenaries in Palestine's favor. Expect Israel to neuter Gaza and blow them sky high; this is going to prevent serious peace talks for a few years, most likely.

My personal theory is that Hamas saw that Israel had been doing a pretty good job of normalizing relations with other countries in the region, particulalry Saudi Arabia, something that would lead to further Palestinian isolation, and decided to do a strike to galvanize the support of those countries' populations to put a wrench into the process.

I'm pretty sure extremist jewish settlers played a giant role. They are ruthless and dangerous. I've read several articles from a few month before the attack that were warning that the situation is getting out of hand. Israel didn't do much to stop them from settling in places where Palestinians live and being annoying shitstains who burn down houses, mosques & cars, destroy olive trees (which are an income source for palestinians) and be violent. The guys have gotten worse and worse over the years. Idk how many Kiwifarmers are even aware of this.


I'm not saying omg poor Palestinians, I'm just saying that Israel made lots of people furious. It's no surprise that the attack happened.
