There's cops outside his home 24/7 because he's a flight risk and they know he murdered his wife. Right now they're just building a case and trying to find the body so they have him dead to rights when it goes to trial.

Possibility of flight is certainly part of it, especially if they've heard that video of him talking about ensuring he has a secret plan to escape the country if necessary. Its also about making sure he knows he's being watched so to put pressure on him, and to keep an eye on him in case anything weird happens or he starts doing things out of the ordinary that might indicate he's trying to dump or destroy evidence and things of that nature
Its worth noting that they make a point of ensuring he knows he's being watched by cops and that he sees the vehicles around. But its also very likely that they have an unmarked vehicle with a plainclothes cop following him whenever he leaves the house that they don't want him to know about, in case he leads them to something or does something suspicious
Its further worth noting they wouldn't likely be doing any of this if they didn't know more than he thinks they do and didn't have reason to actively believe he did something to her. Certainly more than simply 'dropping her off.' This isn't the kind of thing you do when you expect to find someone alive fucking around the woods of new brunswick. He isn't just the prime suspect, at this point they believe he did something. Its why they're keeping it 'friendly,' why they're not putting too much pressure on him and why they are letting him talk and contradict himself so blatantly on these online interviews without showing up confronting him about it the next day. They're building a case and letting him talk himself into a corner, keeping a close eye on everything he says and all the times he contradicts himself and changes his story. They'll keep doing that until they either find a body or feel he's said about as much as he's going to publicly and then he's going to have another talk with the cops. This time its going to be at the station and not nearly as friendly as it was the first time, and he'll very likely leave in handcuffs at that point. I have to wonder if he's stupid enough to try to pull a repeat of his last courtroom debacle and demand to represent himself. He fucked himself badly enough when it was just a arguing over a kid who hadn't even been born yet. He's going to fuck himself utterly and completely he's going to wish he offed himself when he had the chance if he's stupid enough to try it in a case this serious
Incidentally, his story about her wanting to go survivalist in the woods of eastern canada is not a story I believe for a second. I don't think as potato brained as she is she would have seriously considered such a plan and I don't think he's stupid enough to take her out there to do it unprepared as even he knows she'd end up dead and the cops would be at his door when her body was found. They live in PEI right? So they are well aware of the climate, weather and what the temperatures are like in the atlantic provinces. You might last awhile in the summer if you legitimately know what you're doing and have the right equipment and tools with you and hunt or fish for food (which incidentally are both illegal at the time of year she left unless you're native and its clear she didn't have fishing gear or a rifle with her anyway) and she'd get busted for it very quickly out in the woods. You'd be surprised. But lets consider this supposed plan further. The cold weather in atlantic canada hits roughly late october to early november and gets progressively worse until april. Snow could start as early as september or as late as december but it will come and when it does it'll be significant and deep. Especially in the woods. But the coldest months are late january to late march. If you do not know what you are doing, are not prepared for it and I mean properly prepared for it and do not have proper shelter you WILL die of exposure assuming by some miracle you somehow didn't starve to death by then. Not you might die, you will die. You'll be lucky if it just gets to -25 for weeks at a time. But you shouldn't be surprised if its in the -30s, or lower. I've seen it hit as low as -60 for a week or so. Its not common but it does occasionally happen. Not to mention the possibility of wind storms, ice storms and blizzards that can get strong enough you can't see 10 feet in front of you. If you ever played the long dark they got what its like to be caught in a blizzard down rather well
The point is simple. She supposedly planned for a couple years for this woodland adventure (the one JF supposedly both knew about and had no idea about depending on which interview you believe) and they both live in the region so they should be well aware of these facts. Nobody who isn't a literal retard is going to go out in the woods of atlantic canada and expect to live off the land the way JF is claiming she intended. Let alone without proper clothing, tools, gear, shelter and knowing what they're doing. Anyone who tries this will figure out the reality pretty quickly, especially when the fall weather hits and they'll fuck off back home. Anyone who doesn't will die. So, either this is all bs JF made up as a cover, or she's incredibly stupid and had no idea what she was getting into to a darwin award degree and he, knowing these things because as a person living in the region he has certainly experienced them at some point, he said 'ok, that idea is fine, i'll drop you off and let you go live in the woods' with a cell phone and a a high school backpack? That means he's either a dangerously stupid idiot (and if this is the case he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near those kids, ever) or he knows this stuff and is well aware of the inevitable outcome, and deliberately sent her out to die hoping he'd never see her again. That would be the only logical conclusion in that scenario because to do otherwise implies he knew this, sent her out there and then never became concerned when she predictably never came back and he never heard from her again. This is coming from the same guy who claims she spent all this time trying to find the right tent to bring, ordered it, left it behind and that he somehow doesn't even know if its still in the house? and who has changed his story to fit his narrative. So we're to believe she somehow immediately abandoned her plan yet said fuck it and decided to go full hobo wern in new brunswick and neither inform anyone of this significant change in plans other than him nor return to get her car and other important stuff at the very least, not to mention her kids, before following through with leaving him and going on her adventure? and that somehow she's still going full spy and deliberately hiding from everyone and everything to hitch hike and be whore around and may have somehow and for some reason decided to cross the border illegally for reasons? To what end?
Either he killed her or deliberately allowed her to be put in a situation where she'd be killed one way or another. His actions, contradictory statements and general behavior and attitude strongly imply the former. Why change his story at all if she left willingly and he didn't give a shit? Why have so much difficulty keeping simple facts straight even as basic as what she was wearing and what she brought with her? He's trying to avoid being locked into a story when he gets vague about that. Its why he jumped on the backpack, cause he thought it would corroborate his claims. No way that didn't raise alarm bells with the cops, its exactly the kind of thing they look for from a suspect in these situations
This happened in june. Its now october. If alive she is either in a city somewhere or out in the woods. If she is in a city she will be sighted sooner or later one way or another. If she is not in a city she will not survive the winter. Not if she remains in the atlantic region

Even if his version of events were 100% accurate. She could have been killed by some psycho a week later, be in rotting in a ditch right now and he has no way of knowing that this isn't the case. Yet he's posting this shit as though she's totally fine and nothing could have happened to her? Red. Fucking. Flag.
That said, the only rational reason I can think of as to why he would clearly not want anyone to be looking for her and not wanting her to be found by the cops, while also not having killed her, is if what really happened involved him forcing her out of the house for some reason, against her will, after beating her and threatening her or the kids if she were to come back or tell anyone what actually happened. He'd be concerned at this point that if the cops locate her she'd claim he hit her and threatened her or whatever and he's afraid he'd cop charges for it. On the other hand that still doesn't explain all the other looney shit he's said that screams he killed her. It would pretty much defeat the purpose, be counter productive and if anything make the cops more eager to want to find her
