This isn't a new opinion but it's clear that Dick is trying to drum up some publicity for his dead podcast/show in an attempt to use it as a springboard for a career in Hollywood. That's whole reason that he brought Vito into the fold to begin with, he saw that Vito was getting attention on Twitter and thought that some new blood might kickstart the show. He probably wasn't too convinced of Vito's ability to be entertaining in his own right but he could always just use him as a punching bag. The fact that Vito can't see the obvious speaks to the man's intelligence. The same is true for this whole Eric July business. Josh's belief that Dick is trying to bait a lawsuit doesn't sound to far fetched but I don't think that's the main attraction for Dick. The drama alone is probably all the motivation he needs to start and continue this.
That's the theory anyway but I think that Dick has made a huge miscalculation. First the Vito situation, the problem here is that unlike what the people in Hollywood might tell you not all publicity is good publicity. There's plenty of guys out there who make an ass of themselves and get a lot of attention but there's very few who can turn that into any success. For Vito it's an even bigger issue, people are naturally pretty put off when it comes to the topic of pedophilia. It really isn't something you can monetize, sure views=ad revenue but once the initial shock of it has worn off you just become numb to it. He's a total reprobate but there's nothing else to add to that and he has no way to escalate the outrage, I mean the dude already admitted to one of, if not the worst thing you could possible be. Whether it's true or not doesn't really matter at this point.
Secondly, Dick has really poisoned the well for himself with the way he has gone after Eric July. The whole "ethics in trolling" will never stop being gay but there is a very good arguments to be made for having some rules. By admitting to lying for the sake of drama you kill any credibly you have ever had, it's the boy who cried wolf. You mightn't think that matters for a guy like Dick but it does. Right now anything Dick ever says can be safely written off as simply bait and I think we're seeing that play out with July's reaction to Dick and the assorted drug addicts and pedos he associates with.
You set the playing field with your actions, July or anyone would be justified to attack Dick in the same way he attacks others. Normally random Internet trolls are insulated from this by the virtue of being anonymous (mostly anyway) and even then it's not like most of these people have all that much to lose. The same isn't true of Dick, Dick makes money online as a result he relies on infrastructure that can be easily leaned on. His ambition of that Hollywood career also exposes Dick to the same avenue of concern trolling he tried to pull on July. You have to wonder how he'd react to getting dropped from a project because of an email.
TLDR: Outrage gets old quick, you have to escalate until you are acting like a clown and there's absolutely no guaranty that you'll get any success doing it. Baiting people into lawsuits under the belief that you'll make more money off the drama vs the money you'll lose in court is so stupid it hurts. The Maddox thing worked in Dick's favor because Maddox was the bad guy, Maddox was being the retard and Maddox didn't have support going into it. Dick has truly ruined his reputation by gambling that any short term attention will turn into long term success.
Dick is so unbelievably stupid and short sighted it's unreal.
