Article) up before, but a bit before the attack some American destroyed some Roman statues. Specifically, he destroyed two statues; one of the goddess Athena, and the other one dedicated to the goddess Nemesis.
"Police say the man damaged the statues because he said they were "against the Torah", Judaism's most important text.

Listen, I'm not Greek. Or Roman. But realistically, these are probably the worst two deities to get on the bad foot with in anyone's position, least of all in the state of Israel.
Edit: For context, Athena is a lampshade goddess of multiple things including warfare, wisdom, and specifically for this instance revenge. Nemesis I don't think I have to explain much about, it's in her name, but the extra spice to it is that she "personifies retribution for the sin of hubris: arrogance before the gods". Also, they were dated to be from the second century.
