I think Hamas gravely overestimated the reaction Israel would have to their barbarism. Apparently Hezbollah is joining in and there is shit ton of civil unrest in a lot of EU and US places. The bombings in Gaza have been plentiful. This is the quickest escalation I've ever seen and hopefully will see in my lifetime. It is dumb but not as dumb as you seem to think. The idea is the gun (from a distance) looks ready for action, and to get ready for shit you just eject mag and then flip 90 degrees. It also keeps the magwell clear and prevents dust from getting into the weapon.

Many people forget that Israel and Russia have very close relations going back to the Red Army's liberation of the concentration and extermination camps in German-occupied territories. The largest Victory Day celebrations outside of Russia itself are in Israel and a substantial portion of the population speaks Russian as a first or second language.

There have been tensions between the nations due to the Cold War and Russia's involvement with Iran but they have always been pretty close. I don't see that changing any time soon, especially if Israel can bring these murderers to justice.

A couple hundred dollar drone with a home made pipe bomb should be worth an Israeli soldier. I doubt Israelis are set up to deal with stuff like this.
