Seriously though don't think there's ever gonna be a dynamic like those booths Nintendo used to set up at game conventions and shit where they just set Charles up with some mocap mario (or wario) avatar and let him do pretty much whatever the fuck he wanted.

Sometimes I think about how if that if it was made nowadays would be marketed as a "vtuber" Mario instead of "real time mario".

Surprised this hasn't happened yet since Sonic also took the Vtuber pill relatively recently. They should do V-tube Link where he just stares at the camera in total silence while the game plays in the background.

I watched/listened to most of that two hour livestream. He seemed pretty much completely unfamiliar with Mario 64, didn't know Peach's name was originally Toadstool, didn't know it was where the penguins were originally from, and so on. I know you don't have to be a loremaster to voice a character, but it's Mario. He also has kind of a high-pitched, almost lisp-y voice, he's a shameless Disney fanatic, and he has a roommate who seems even more flamboyant and runs a Disney podcast with him (I did some digging, and they're only roommates as far as I can tell).

But if you can look past all that, he seems very wholesome as far as e-celebs go. Cheery personality, no politics, no explicit/adult themes, not even a single swear word in the entire livestream, and his Twitter is almost strictly professional. I can see why Nintendo would want someone like him to represent Mario.

And for what it's worth, he did eventually 100% Mario 64, though it took him a long ass time.

I’m saying I had my suspicions, but as far as I can tell he’s a normal guy who happens to have a lisp-y voice and a somewhat flamboyant roommate. In fact, I did some more digging aka a two minute google search, and he’s a Christian who studied music at Dallas Baptist University (or at least he was back in 2014). I don’t think there’s any cause for alarm.

Looking forward to Twitter’s reaction when they find out both of Mario’s new modern voices are *gasp* Christians!

They should’ve just hauled Martinet into the studio and had him record a bunch of shit and let AI handle it. Only so many ways to say bing bing wahoo anyway. Having said that, only Nintendo could pull off having another white guy be the voice. Soyny would’ve went for the biggest blue gummed nigger they could find.

He'd probably be white no matter what given the obsession by Soyny and other companies lately of having voice actors "stay in their lane" racially nowadays.

Consitering how long Martinet had voiced Mario, you'd think they would have done just that when the quality of voice cloning really got better since they have probably the best and largest source of voice samples they could ever use to make a complete replica the voice itself.

Cuz charles martinet was a lovely man and micheal douglas's dad, and nintendo just didn't use him cuz they didn't give a shit about him which was also funny.
the real question is will he voice wario, of which this redditor will not be able to capture the pure Robber Baron industrialist that Martinet captured while still accounting for how cool and likable wario is.

He said he had an N64 and some other big games on it growing up, and I think he said Banjo-Kazooie was one of his favorites, he just skipped over Mario 64 for whatever reason. Though he also questioned why Nintendo controllers "have the A and B buttons reversed from everyone else".

I've seen YouTubers turn out to be pretty good voices, though rarely. I remember the Chad Vader guy did the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars Force Unleashed games (these were pre-Disney). He was genuinely the best non-James Earl Jones voice for Vader I've heard. Compare that to the weird voice the new Star Wars games used for Vader, he was pretty good.
