Yeah, see, he is adding value to X by making it more than just a micro-blog platform. He is adding features that allows say Twitch streamers to stream fully on Twitter, the different levels of restriction on accounts can be seen as a similar model to Patreon. Since the verified account, which is usually a content creator of some sort, chooses to restrict their posts to verified only naturally gatekeeps. It gatekeeps people out of communities, voice chats, streams, it is harder for trolls, stalkers, etc. to roll through accounts as there are several levels that could be restricted say due to a ban.

I don't agree with it, but I understand why they are going in this direction. They want to directly compete with YouTube and Twitch, poaching streamers to use X instead. It's an all in one spot that could potentially replace Discord's voice chat, and also create "forums". I'm curious to see how it pans out.

Most of the stalkers on Twitter have blue checks or even yellow ones and institutional backing from major power-players.
Taylor Lorenz and Keffals are verified. (or at least were the last time I could be assed to look at their repulsive timelines)

They want to directly compete with YouTube and Twitch
For what exactly.
Both of these platforms have been strangling themselves slowly and progressively to death the past few years.
Aside from the enforced progressive group-think in their rigid speech policies, their copyright systems fail utterly to protect smaller creators or average users. They're not legally required to do that bit, either, they're just too limp-dicked to litigate the concepts of fair use and parody for their userbase.

I remember recently catching a rant from a pink anime rabbit about how most of her catalog is being hijacked by "copyright claims" over 3 and 4 second incidental audio or video, causing 3 and 5 hour blocks of her work to be stolen.

Who on earth would want to sign up for that?
It's painfully easy to steal the thunder of "competition" like YouTube and Twitch: simply offer what these platforms were in 2008 before they were taken to the cuck-shed.

Yes, but much like buying a bot net, what is the stalker's threshold in making a new accounts and paying for verification each time? That's why I'm saying it is a better filter, heck, adding any extra step is a better filter. You are also speaking to a very niche set of people, yes they'll have institutional backing which may have meant something when the platform was governed by a board of directors. But I'm not really worried about that small slice of cancer. I'm speaking more for niche community groups such as local friends, meetups, hobby groups, etc.

Although, with that said, with the revelation of a potential "report" card, the score hidden on user profiles for frequent reporters, even if institutional abuse can be found I'd wager there might be repercussions for crying wolf. Especially if they are say, Keffals. Imagine creating your community only to be shadowbanned in it or heck, lose the ability to be verified and stuck with the trolls, plebians and unverified. Oh heck, that might be an even bigger incentive to be a good little content creator and not rock the boat.

You answered it.

Maybe I wasn't clear or didn't express my thoughts completely. When I say directly compete with those two platforms, I suppose it would be more accurate to single out Twitch specifically. Twitch has probably the most draconic streaming rules and streamers are jonsing for an alternate service. Twitter could be that. Yeah, we are basically on the same boat just on different ends in this regard. I am also saying that Elon is potentially giving them a platform that is Twitch but on Steroids since X appears to offer more tools to build communities within.

Somewhat related to that, this video by Upper Echelon on disinformation on twitter is pretty good

Musk has fucked up. He did some pretty decent job to make twitter less cancerous but it would seem his chemo has merely delayed the disease and now it has picked up much faster.

His monetization scheme has made it so people have a incentive to not only lie but be as bombastic and exaggerated as possible so they can get the clicks. This is youtube clickbait brain-rot content, except it is a hundred times easier to do and a thousand times worse. It used to be "journalist" types were propelled mostly by a desire for clout of fellow journalists and news watchers, and a search for truth and facts. Not exactly out of their own goodness and integrity most of the time, but because trust is the hardest currency to earn in news. It directly determined how much of a following you would have, possible merch and monetization gains, exposure and growth. You had a incentive to try and keep honest.

Musk's attempt at a youtube-fication of twitter has removed any incentive to try and be honest. Just fuck it, you have to post the most outrageous and insane news to get all those clicks and get that bread.

It's like this african american has no understanding of what people will do for easy money. He really seems to have thought this wouldn't result in a complete deluge of the worst sort of tabloid garbage and sensationalism out there. And of course his enemies who are seething he took control of twitter from them are now hard as diamonds because he gave them a excuse to SHUT IT DOWN that is perfectly wrapped in gift paper with a neat bow on it.

There is simply no possible way to control any of this information without a massive amount of good will and high trust between users. It will not be fixed, not with so called "A.I." or community notes. The only real solution is gonna be dedicated "disinformation" censors at twitter doing the exact shit that Musk bought Twitter to stop, and that end game makes for exactly what they want here. This retard managed to stumble out of the cusp of victory into the jaws of defeat, and it was because he was too much of a Rousseau "Man is Born Good" lolbertarian retard to understand what the promise of easy money from just posting on social media would encourage.

We have decided to leave X. (Thread)

With the enormous rise in trans and queer hostility, racism, misogyny, anti-Semitism, and other misanthropic content, we believe X is no longer a sustainable environment for the profile of a public body.

There is also the question of which target groups can still be reached via X. Also, the number of hate comments has risen so massively that we can only counter this with a high level of staffing it is questionable whether this can still be justified with tax funds.

Hate speech and disinformation have increased, especially after the change of ownership and mass layoffs at Twitter Elon Musk has dropped out of the voluntary EU agreement to combat disinformation on the Internet. This suggests that the will to counter disinformation is lacking.

Previously blocked far-right accounts were unblocked and the verification system commercialized so-called troll factories spreading pro-Russian propaganda have also apparently bought verification ticks to increase their reach and influence debates. Since then, it has become almost impossible to distinguish serious from non-serious sources.

More than 160 rabbis and representatives of Jewish organizations recently called for a boycott of the platform: "X has become a breeding ground for anti-Semitism and represents one of the greatest dangers for Jews in years. If something doesn't change, we know what will happen: Hate speech and radicalization are always the precursor to violence."

(Final tweet ahead)

The final tweet though is really 🤨 worthy

As a state institution, the Anti-Discrimination Agency has a role model function. Therefore, remaining on X is no longer justifiable for us all ministries and other public bodies should ask themselves whether it is still acceptable to remain on a platform that has become a disinformation network and whose owner spreads anti-Semitic, racist and populist content.

Hmmm... Populist content is not allowed huh? I wasn't aware populism was banned. It is not mentioned anywhere.
