I know this meme got popular back when Russia invaded last year and people mocked them for being too poor to afford optics, but it's kind of mean to tell people that irons are better than proper optics when they're looking for genuine advice.
To be clear, there's a reason why the world's only competent military uses 3.5x optics on every rifle, and why every rifleman is trained to use a rifle with an attached optic rather than using irons. Get yourself a cheap 3x prism scope from primary arms and marvel at how your accuracy improves.
yeah it is true fudd advice to say irons are always better than optics. modern optics beat iron sights. i think irons are more fun to shoot, but in a tactical situation i want a good set of optics.
They made a 3x scope for mounting on top of those "A2" style carry handles. Don't mess up your match rifle, its a collector's piece. And then if you have an "A4" style flat top with the picatinny, i'm pretty sure you can mount a scope on there that will co-witness at lower 1/3rd. Other gunfags can tell you more in DMs though.
Is it in that exact configuration, or do you mean it has an A2 style fixed carry handle? Because that picture shows an A4 style removable carry handle which you could just take off with thumbscrews, and then mount an optic of your choosing on the rail. The front sight doesn't need to be removed to be used with many magnified optics- I have a carbine with both a front sight post and a 1-6x LVPO, and the post completely disappears as you zoom above 2x.
If it is an A2, DO NOT have it chopped just to kludge some rail onto it like it's 1984. People are paying crazy money for just an A2 upper receiver with rear sights right now because there's a resurgence in the popularity of retro builds. The carry handle mounted optics work fine, they're just a bit high for most people's liking. If you really want to modernize it for a good cheekweld and maximum versatility you can just pay like $70 for a railed upper:
and then any competent gunsmith could swap the barrel to that receiver quickly and fairly cheaply. It simply involves removing the gas tube and unbolting the barrel nut from the old receiver, then doing the same in reverse on the new receiver. Then you can flip the loose A2 receiver on gunbroker or whatever and use that money for the optic
please dont mess up a carry handle AR. reminds me of those retards who buy up surplus guns, spend a bunch of time and money chopping them up, welding and bolting on tactical accessories to make a very ugly and barely functional gun adn ruining the surplus value of the gun rather than getting a dedicated black rifle.
i have always loved that aesthetic which is why i love that retro ARs are a thing; my entire adult life the AR market has been those disgusting "tacticool" riced out ARs with the flat top, the quad rails everywhere, and just ugly aesthetics all around. ive been watching the live stream and so far im not impressed. so far majority of buildings are standing just fine. unless they plan to do so in the following days, so far israel hasnt bombed gaza anywhere close to dust by now.

as an aside i would like to shout out the overworked medical staff in gaza. im talking the actual ambulances helping people and not the hamas bomb carrying kind. they were working like crazy through the night and you know it had to be very difficult to go through that with no sleep and constantly having to run back and forth carrying wounded. can we not genocide those guys?
