Sony hate thread

Sony seems to vastly underestimate the financial investment needed for game changing innovations.
It's not the finances they've underestimated, it's the market that they once knew so well

So it flopped? Poor hardware sales and no 1st party games I assume, like Vita?
It sold very well and came out the gates with a decent library of games, then was left to die. It could be and should be so much more than what it is.

Sony bought Bungie, but there isn't Destiny 2 on PSVR2. Why? That should have been a launch day banger.

There's a two step process to smashing trannies
1) tuck 'em

Wait, PSVR2 came out?

With what games?

Horizon Call of the Mountain and a few gimped PC ports like Pavlov which had the effect of killing the modding scene on PC because they decided to drop the steam workshop for mod.io

Gran Turismo 7 also had PSVR2 compatibility added this year, and apparently playing on VR is enough reason for some racing game players to buy GT7, and the setup stuff to play in VR.

Switch OLED is not really a different model, its the same hardware as the Switch just with an OLED screen and functional kickstand. I think the motherboard is slightly laid out differently with slightly better cooling, but thats not an actual upgrade of the hardware
I'd consider it sort of a downgrade in some respects. I can't remember all the changes but some of the ports on the original switch and switch v2 were separate boards connected via ribbon cables, the oled has them on the main board, so if something like the game card reader breaks now you have to solder in a new one instead of replacing a complete and seperate board and plugging in a ribbon cable to repair it.

Also it doesn't get talked about much but the oled has the option to not auto update games hard disabled in the OS, not that it will matter to most consumers but anybody like me who runs a game on an old version like Pokémon BDSP to still use the cloning glitch it does.

Holy shit I just looked it up and PSVR2 came out in February?

I literally thought it was coming out this Holiday or something, I haven't heard shit about it.

My friend has a PS5+PSVR2 and honestly it's fucking sweet. The PSVR2 is why I would buy a PS5. Pavlov is loads of fun, as is GT7 and that 4 player zombie game. Going back to flatscreen FPS sucks balls, especially with how good the VR2 controllers are.

But Sony have left it to die. They haven't supported it or brought new games to it. No Alyx port, no open world FPS games on the horizon, nothing on the Sony roster that could even be ported to VR, seems all of their games are TPS.

It's a real shame as we're seeing one of the best pieces of tech ever made, be pushed to one side when it could be a genre-definer or industry changer.

But... why? The only real advantage is that you don't have to install the games themselves. But storage is cheap and easy to install on the PS5 so why not just download the game and play it without latency? A lot of the stuff they're offering is already part of PS+ so you can just do that.

Have Sony and Microsoft got a checklist they're both speed-running through to see who can make the most spastic decisions in the industry?

Why are both companies hell-bent on copying failed ideas? (Obviously it's because the first console to mass-adopt streaming wins, as you will own nothing and be happy)

They have been doing this shit way before Stadia was a thing, the only thing new is adding PS5 games to it
dedicated sony thread and people don't even know they bought gaikai in 2012...

I agree with not going PC compatible with the headset IF they're going to 'closed-architecture' the shit out of games and make them run better than anything else.

That the psvr2 launched as advanced as it is, then was left to die, is a massive, massive failure by Sony
same happened with the PSVR1. as a kit it was great because it was normie-friendly enough even consoletards could use it, and technically simple enough still doing fine what it was supposed to do.
had they released PC support, with the option it would have gotten wide dev support, porting stuff would be easy enough. you could get a PSVR1 for 200-300 bucks, years before the quest was a thing.

PSVR2 is quite a leap in tech, which makes it being chained to ps5 even more dumb. plus it's more expensive and exclusive to a console with much smaller install base. worse it's not 2016 anymore when everybody was hyped about VR. even if they plan to support it, their whole MUH NARRATIVE AAA is in complete opposite to it where you want smaller games to at least break even - unless they adapt their blockbuster shit to VR, but given the ps5 even is at it limits with those, there's simply no way to give you the same experience in VR (besides the gameplay hurdles of having everything adapt to VR).

NVME drives are pretty much dirt cheap nowadays, and honestly, this is the only thing I'll give Sony praise for in the PS5's design instead of Microsoft's insistence at their proprietary expansion card bullshit. Paying $400 bucks for a 2 TB card when I could get a 2 TB NVME drive for around $150 seems like the better option.

Did you at least get a chance to play RE:Village in VR? I'm honestly considering getting the VR2 headset just to play that and RE4 VR, but I'll wait until Black Friday rolls around if I bite the bullet on it.

If you have a capable PC it would just be better to get a PC supported headset and play the RE VR mods instead, since you aren't locked to a single system. I don't know if buying the 500 dollar headset when Sony isn't even supporting it very well is really a smart idea.
