Either or both of these at once is equally plausible. Stephanie regularly doxxes her locations despite being "stalked" by haydurs and just in general has piss poor internet safety and literacy. She's also been scammed multiple times in the past few months, some with double whammies. If she gets a message from someone saying that she needs to pay to get her login info back (hacked or not), then she'll absolutely be stupid enough to not check to see if she got an email from the service asking "is dis you" and try to send whatever money Papa Frigs gave her to the scammer.

She's already fallen for something similar this year, when she gave all her info to "Microsoft" so that they could un-hijack her computer.
I wonder if this latest scamming will prompt her parents to take some sort of action. Her dad must've been furious, having to drive her around to get this sorted out. The parents don't currently have the time and energy to deal with this, and they're not wealthy enough to bail her out on an ongoing basis. $14 for rent is one thing, but thousands of dollars is entirely another.
She's regressing and getting dumber and more gullible, and it's really happening fast over the past year. Her previous antics seem quaint when compared to this recent pedophile talk, and she's tempting fate with the "please rape my corpse" talk. I guess I'm just gobsmacked at how much worse she's gotten, in the absence of drink or drugs. She's hanging out with the wrong ghostly crowd, I guess.
I do wonder what options her parents have, at least as far as some sort of guardianship or putting someone in charge of her finances. She doesn't qualify for a group home or anything, but she's sure hellbent on proving that she can't manage money at all.

If she actually got Social Security, she may get a representative payee that has control over her SSI account for this very reason. Usually that happens if the rep payee (often a family member) proves that the recipient is incompetent with finances, hygiene, etc. She definitely needs a wrangler of some sort. Maybe for everyday life, but definitely financially.
Most people are pretty stupid when they first move out and learn to be independent, but Staph really is going off the deep end. It's not like she's learning how to sort laundry or how to cook without triggering the fire alarm. It's actually pretty shocking to see her tard brain further decay while living semi independently. And it was bad enough when she lived with her parents, pissing in their mugs and trashing the deck to summon demons. Now she wants to fuck trees (and kids) and gets sucked into obvious scams more often than your average boomer. How did it get worse than pissing in mugs?!
I take back what I said. She definitely needs a wrangler for everyday life. A group home where an assistant come in once or twice a day and give an allowance would actually be great for someone for her. It's the best that society can do unless she fucks up enough to end up in prison or a mental hospital. If Staph was born thirty years earlier, she'd be in an an insane asylum.

The way a check scam works is that someone would message you through GFM about how they want to donate, but they can't donate electronically for whatever reason. However, they can send a check that you can deposit at the bank or via a banking app. They ask for information like your address or banking info to send the (bad or nonexistent) check to you. Staph is dumb and greedy, salivating at the idea of a $9000 windfall, so she gave the scammer whatever info they asked for.
Edit since I don't want to double post: The bank asked her to have a clean PC? Did she get infected with a buttload of viruses? I've never had a bank advise me to do this (then again, I've never fallen for a phishing scam that required me to nuke an account and start over). Papa Frig is in for a surprise if he looks longer than five seconds. The Frigs used to be a lot stricter with her electronics after the Michael Jackson larp incident, to the point of forbidding her from having a phone for over a decade. Now imagine if he finds her pedo shit.
Second edit: GoFundMe has a page specifically about scams to avoid, including solicitation of offers of payment via DM. Y'know, the very thing that bit Staph in the ass.
