Florida teacher severely beaten by 270-pound student over Nintendo Switch refuses to help defense lighten sentence - might have REEEE'd himself into a prison for life over a Nintendo Switch, teacher refuses to assist in lightening his sentence

Florida teacher severely beaten by 270-pound student over Nintendo Switch refuses to help defense lighten sentence

The Florida teacher who was beaten unconscious by a 270-pound student in a viral video has refused to help the teen’s defense lighten his sentence, according to a report.
Brendan Depa, then 17, violently hurled Matanzas High School paraprofessional Joan Naydich to the ground, then could be seen in the video kicking and punching her in the back and head more than a dozen times before he was pulled off her by other staff.
The troubled teen told investigators he attacked Naydich because teachers ordered him to stop playing a video game on a Nintendo Switch.
Depa, who was charged as an adult, faces up to 30 years in prison for the first-degree felony charge of aggravated battery.
According to Flagler Live, Naydich has “shown no interest in mitigating what penalties Depa might face.”
The autistic teen — who will plead guilty to avoid trial — was initially charged as a juvenile in the case before the raps were upgraded.

Still, Judge Terrence Perkins still has the option of sentencing him as a youth — and meting out a penalty as low as probation. The teen’s disabilities will likely weigh on his decision.
Now 18, Depa had three prior battery arrests before the shocking February attack on Naydich, who was treated at a hospital after the assault.
Flagler Live also reported that Depa got into a brawl in jail just last month.

Naydich has refused to take steps that would lessen the Depa’s sentence.

Depa, who stands 6-foot-6, reportedly threatened to kill Naydich during his arrest.
It was initially reported Naydich had personally confiscated the Nintendo device from him, but she denied doing so in subsequent interviews.
“I’m hopeful that the awareness of this incident being spread far and wide will prevent anyone else from ever dealing with the trauma, physical healing and disruption of everyday life this has caused,” she said on a GoFundMe page that has raised more than $100,000.
Depa is slated to issue his plea later month and will be sentenced after that in a separate proceeding.
The high school where the assault took place has been besieged by violence in recent years — and days.

Just this week, 11 students were arrested at the Palm Coast school after a massive fracas erupted in a crowded hallway.
Deputies and administrators who tried to quell the chaos were shoved and punched during the incident.
“The lack of respect demonstrated by these students is simply shameful,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said of the fight. “But actions have consequences.”
In yet another violent episode this week, a 16-year-old student was arrested for biting a teacher who tried to stop her from fighting another girl.

Tard wranglers are paid min wage or close to it. Most of the time, they're people who can't get any other job.

As for why incidents like this often don't result in sentences, the answer is that it's because guys like this are endless money for nonprofits. For example, from what I understand, this guy is likely on Medicaid. If this guy has any services, there is basically no oversight on effectiveness and virtually no limits on the money spent.

Hundreds of people have secure, if lowish-paying, jobs because of individuals like this who can basically never be helped in a meaningful way. The situation is kind of like nursing home jobs actually.

Depends on the state and service. If Florida has autism waiver services for someone his age (the ones i know are for adults), there should be goals he is supposed to be working on. Unfortunately a lot of clients try to weasel their way out of accomplishing anything because the parents are the ones making decisions for them.

Holy shit, a woman that isn't going to roll over and let the young scholar off so they can go to heckin college and cure cancer? And a teacher at that?

Perhaps there's hope for some of them yet.

Speculation on my part but that teacher looks like the quintessential bleeding heart teacher. She would probably be on the gorillas side if she wasn't the victim in this. Turns out getting nearly beat to death by a giant negro is what it takes to knock some sense into them.

Feel bad that it was a parapro, they are regularly and heavily trained for worst-case scenarios, and underpaid for doing so. Really their job is half-teaching basic life skills, half-helping the potatoes poo in the toilet. Catching a beating like this is not uncommon, but the video here is especially violent and damning based on the race/sex/size dynamic.

In this instance, it's carte blanche for racists. The tard here will never fit in with civilized society and is a proven violent retard & liability probably by virtue of a shitty household. If it's not pulling a plow in a field for tendies it honestly should be put down. But no one can say what everybody is thinking in 2020's America except on serbian detective message boards.

legit, dude needed a REAL tard wrangler. Like, some dude 40 years old that's at least as tall and strong as him.
Men are extremely underrepresented in tard-wrangling and caregiving, and the large ones are in high demand. If you're a BIG GUY(4u) and don't mind the relatively low pay, finding work is extremely competitive and flexible.

I love the recruiter.

"Meh, not my fucking problem."

If he'd so much as BREATHED on that kid he'd have been fucked and he knew it. White male is bad enough, but military AND he's a Marine? Yeah, touch the tard and lose everything? Nope, fuck that.

Still, I love how the article is "Why isn't this woman who was nearly beaten to death by an out of control student the size of a goddamn freezer helping free her attacker?"

Gee, maybe she doesn't want to turn around in a week and see this giant tard charging her at school again, since it already threatened to kill her?

This nigger should not be in a school, he should be tranquilized and doped up every day until he just stares at the wall and sits in a puddle of piss. Seriously, what is the point in educating people like this? They at best see their school situation as a playground where they disrupt and interrupt the schooling of normal children, and at worst a pit to fight and inflict mindless violence on anyone they see fit to abuse that day.

Because of an federal mandate that basically forces kids to go to school, whether they're actually learning anything or not. Although, in the case of people like him, it's supposed to be an diet Home Ec class; but the results of that are kind of contested, obviously

The tard should've been in SPED for his entire education. At least they teach autistics to behave decently and not cry and throw tantrums for every single minor thing.
That said, adult treatment for assault absolutely is overkill and that's a fuckup of the stupid legal system that didn't take account the tard was actually underage at the time he assaulted his teacher.
