I have some trouble with the 3D because horrible eyesight. My right eye is also weaker so it makes it hard to focus on the 3D correctly. I only used the 3D occasionally. But after a few minutes it bothered me and the image would sorta tear even when I held it right. I probably should go with 2DS if I replace mine.

If you get another 3DS, get a second generation 3DS, it has dynamic eye tracking so it isn't as hard to focus for the 3D effect. Also, take your full distance Rx, add +1 to the sphere value for each eye, and ask to have your monocular pupillary distance provided when reading. Now you have an adapted computer Rx that will drastically reduce the strain on your eyes when reading a backlit screen. It should also make the 3D effect easier to do.
