Furry Convention Drama - Because you can't have a couple thousand dog fucking enthusiasts under the same roof without shit hitting the fan

On the subject of babyfurs:

That subfandom is a lot larger than they let on.
What do you think the fraction is of babyfurs in the furry Fandom? 1/4th? 1/8th?

All babyfurs need their hard drives inspected by the feds.
We have a new baby in the family, and while shopping for baby stuff Amazon kept showing me shit from a brand called little4big. Disgusting adult baby shit.
You can filter it to only put out results for actual infants. Not so sure about sponsored results, might be shit outta luck there.

Slight PL but yes I can confirm that A TON of furries are Babyfurs either out or in the closet about it. Someone else said it prior but yeah a big clue is either they like Bluey or Paw Patrol (although haven't seen a closet babyfur that openly liks Paw Patrol) another one would be overalls, Not kidding.

Would you say this is a relatively recent phenomenon? I never got that vibe like ten years ago. Babyfurs still seemed like a relatively small, freak niche even by furfag standards back then.

It is pretty recent from what I feel yeah. I'm sure there were some closeted babyfurs and of course public ones but not to the degree we face now.

In my opinion it's a social contagion akin to trooning.

But my question is out of all the sexual fads to hook onto, why this one?

My best guess is low bar for entry, buying your way into it and a built in coddling echo chamber (parallel to trooning).

Jesus christ, how financially desperate would a hotel need to be to host this?
Blame IT jobs being plagued by the furry virus since ancient times. Being into Unix jobs was already a red flag.

ConFurence Eight! What’s happening?More of what we’re famous for, that’s what: Meetings, discussions, rap sessions and round-tables on dozens of furry topics, from art and writing to animation, computers, games, and even meeting other fans of your favorite animal species. Presentations, lectures, and how-to sessions on writing, art, publishing, and other aspects of the creative furry. And yes, more life-drawing workshops! The Saturday afternoon Costume Presentation, with voting for the best costume — and more helpful how-to sessions with the costume makers and designers. Computer networking, art, animation, and technical innovations. Games, both paper and electronic, cards and role-playing, and everywhere in-between. Filking through the night, including our popular Furry Filksong Contest, and a special filk/folk concert. Sketching by literally dozens of artists of every size, shape, and style. And a whole lot more! All the rest, as always, is what you bring to the con!
BTW, taos is a consulting IBM company https://www.ibm.com/consulting/taos

Considering that one of the first babyfurs I have had the misfortune of finding out about was Pamperchu, who is not only heavily into overalls but also admitted to being an actual pedophile(just go into his thread, it's a shitshow), I would not be surprised in the slightest

Honestly, you're not wrong based on some psychological research into how fetishes spread and develop.

My not-so-secret autistic obsession that holds the line is the psychology of fetishes. They are pretty well known to be highly memetic within a community, roleplay fetishes especially so, it also is known having certain fetishes makes you more vulnerable to catching related fetishes including those you'd normally reject out of hand before. Basically the slippery slope argument with some actual science holds up.

Note that the slope is only slippery if lubricated. Usually because the people on it are failing to gain fulfillment elsewhere, such as by having an unfulfilling job/social life/hobbies they actually take pleasure in, or if someone dives in hard and fast, for example a closeted faggot coming out after living under the roof of a homophobic parent or guardian suddenly reveling in freedom to be a total degenerate. Usually anyone who isn't trying to fill the void or going wild likely will settle somewhere in the realm of "a bit weird, but not abhorrent". This is because the science, as little as there is due to politics impeding research, points towards the metaphorical lubricant being the desire to feel the rush of breaking some taboo again. Basically the same reasons a lot of people do drugs. The madness, at least initially, is a symptom not the disease until it becomes so bad that it is the disease. Once again, like drug use.

Roleplay fetishes are the biggest culprit for this type of problem, and spread especially easily as lifestyles, due to the desire for escapism. Well adjusted people get their escapism from movies, TV, anime, video games, or TTRPGs. The less stable seek escapism from weird lifestyles, and the sexually unsatisfied will either turn the escapism into a fetish if it wasn't already, or will pursue a fetish for the escapism.

Babyfurs are a great example of all of this. It's rare to see someone start as a babyfurs, they usually start as normal furries and slide into being babyfurs later. There's a community, their lifestyle and fetish is roleplay based, most of them only get laid at cons, they're miserable fucks chasing the next high, and a lot of them also work IT which is pretty unfulfilling for most people.

Makes sense since so many are indeed in IT/Networking. Those are some of the most miserable I've encountered. If they hate their job but can't switch to a better one, find some hobbies that don't exclusively involve watching netflix/youtube and playing steam games. Those aren't proper hobbies, anyway.

I have an appreciation for "funny animals" who walk like people do, but I never met a single self-proclaimed furry I can relate to, only those in the same boat as myself: Enjoying certain aspects, but not as a whole.

They broke containment, and I think several uncloseted as a result.
No, I remember this being exactly what happened. Someone was outted for it and getting shat on, and a bunch of semi big names came out as well in support and the backlash quickly died off.
From an angle, I get why. Calling people pedophiles is so diluted anymore it's easy to throw out at the nearest adjacent looking thing. I've always taken a "Oh of course the pedo is also a babyfur" approach over "Oh of course the babyfur is also a pedo."
But my question is out of all the sexual fads to hook onto, why this one?
It's escapism.
Let me put it in a really autistic way: I have a shitty Dark Souls build and I restart to do a better run using what I've learned. I can't just start back from square one knowing what I have learned in real life, that ability doesn't exist.
It's usually people who have either had some trauma or are generally unsatisfied with their current life. Even if things improve, by then the fantasy has hooked itself in and stops being a complicated cope, but it hooks itself in and remains all the same.
This isn't always the case, but this seems to be the most common trend.

To further build on my thoughts: it's always been my reading of the collective unconscious that it's due to the general decline in the competency of parents.

And sure - in the past, you'd hear everyone's grudge "Ooh. My parent wouldn't let me do this, they wouldn't let me do that" - but this seems to manifest in quite a different way.
Then again, there's my alternative theory: That everyone was always fucked up; but in different "trendy" ways depending on the era. The internet has just made it more obvious.

The coddling part is important. Modern society seems to to crave it to an unprescedented degree. Maybe it's due to a failure of contemporary leaders. Maybe the old "Matrix" meme of a life that you no longer have any meaningful control over. What happened to the creators of those films again? One of the main books that inspired The Matrix - a psychological text about simulacrums - is also quite relevant. Similar to how Troons have surgery related iconography, Infantilists have simulacrum based iconography.

I recall Carl Avery Babbit claiming that Infantilism has actually existed throughout history and we simply haven't been perceptive to it. This statement is - on the surface - quite ridiculous but then I have flashbacks to history lessons on Edwardian(? Victorian(?)) parties where they'd all pretend to be schoolchildren in a nursery. That strange sex cult that made a bunch of ZX Spectrum games. Hmm. Maybe it was just a UK thing...

Here's an interesting schitzo theory: Walt Disney was probably one.
I'd like those of you who know him better to chime in with your own views but in my opinion there was always something very *wrong* with him. His obsession with kitchy infantile things. His painstakingly crafted small scale societies. His crack R&D department.
Walt's plans for the real Tomorrowland were never realized and yet they feel closer and closer than ever. I don't believe that Disney's creation of an all-consuming all-controlling behemoth was any sort of accident. That wild yearning for ultimate control is a throughline with these people.

Anyway, sorry about the mess.

Holy shit you guys are putting way to much thought into this past “eww, gross.”
Can’t blame em, not much going on in the convention sphere. Don’t worry BLFC is next week!

Also Further Confusion, a con in San Jose California, has switched over to a lottery system for room selection instead of first come first serve. Before the first names could be pulled for rooms their main hotel the Marriott (or the most popular one, there are two convention space hotels) is already booked out.
Is this because of their inability to negotiate a suitable contract, or hotel issues? Nobody knows, but they’re blaming it on vendors and staff booking being more “robust” than usual.
