I have to agree with you despite wishing I wasn't - and that concerns me greatly. I too was wondering how Hamas powered rockets were capable of taking out an entire hospital given the munition scale of their normal rockets. But that's not a sure thing, just the unknown.
If it turns out Israel did bomb that hospital, the USA by standing by Israel is most certain to receive terror attacks in retaliation of our support. If the West supports Israel if they are found to have indeed done this, we will come under attack shortly; and I'd imagine some countries will turn heel on backing US aid to Israel if they are found to have done this.
Everything that can go wrong it seems, is going wrong.

Nobody here is taking Hamas or Islamic Jihad at the word, though a lot of people seem to be doing that for the IDF. The sound of the strike sounded like a JDAM, not a falling piece of rocket debris. The strike instantly produced a single huge explosion, consistent with a JDAM and not consistent with a falling rocket somehow triggering a chain reaction.

Also, from that footage... it doesn't look like a failed rocket. It sounds and looks like something hitting that was on the end of its curve, not a missile rising up and failing to take off.
A random rocket that broke up, even if it was heavy enough to do that damage... would it hit it 100% head on? Not more likely hit it horizontally and explode off center?
I was 50-50 before, but now I think it was the merchants by a wide margin.

Hamas fired a R160 by their own admission. That's a 750kg rocket with 150kg payload. A 150kg payload will completely destroy a house in a 10 meter radius, not counting secondary explosions from fuel, LOX, etc.

The issue is that both sides of this conflict have been adapting their military posture in accordance with "the rules based international order". Israel, in its restraint to not just carpet bomb Gaza and rid the Jews of their enemies once and for all time, and Hamas, by positioning strategic nodes by hospitals and UN Schools because they know doing so will make it hard for Israel to not violate the "Rules Based International Order".
The United Nations, which was established to uphold this "Rules Based International Order" has instead shown itself to be the totally ineffectual pawn of short term great power shenanigans. Very good at checking the Great Powers from fighting each other, but utterly useless in dealing with the myriad of human conflicts that have occurred on this cursed Planet, and Will occur on it until the end of time.
The UN Could at any moment bring this entire catastrophe to a screeching halt, provided the permanent members agree and browbeat the remaining non-permanent members into compliance. But they won't because they don't want too. Its far too important for the permanent members to keep international institutions weak as useful tools, but not organs of enforcement. Which means at the international level there is no Law save only the law that you make, and of course its the Muslims and Jews to finally put this simple truth to the test.
