Gargoyles, the beloved animated series that originally ran in the 90s, is ready to awaken once again. THR reports that Gary Dauberman is teaming up with James Wan's Atomic Monster to produce a live-action version of the series for Disney+.

Dauberman is set to serve as writer, producer, and showrunner for the new series, with Atomic Monster helping to produce the show. It follows in the footsteps of other live-action reboots like One Piece, though Gargoyles is distinguished by being based on an American animated series rather than anime.

An animated classic returns

The original show ran from 1994 and 1997, with its heroes being "stone by day, warriors by night. It gained a cult following thanks to its excellent writing and animation as well as its darker take on cartoon action. It also had a surprisingly large number of Star Trek alums in its cast, including Jonathan Frakes and Marina Surtis, who played Commander Riker and Deanna Troi respectively in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

We wrote that Gargoyles helped redefine cartoon villainy in a 2021 retrospective.

"The show was also able to show a surprising amount of onscreen carnage by having characters who had been turned to stone bloodlessly smashed to pieces," we wrote at the time. "That liberty was most noticeable in the arc “City of Stone,” where Demona uses a spell to transform all the humans in Manhattan into stone from sunset to sunrise."

For his part, Dauberman is best-known for his work on the Annabelle horror movies, which are part of Wan's Conjuring universe. Dauberman also wrote The Nun and its sequel while serving as a co-writer on It.

No word on how far along the project is at this point, so it may be a while before it finally lands on Disney+. In the meantime, check out our recent tribute to the '90s, including a look back on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Sega Dreamcast, and more.

I am so sick of this shit.

How much farther down, before we reach the bottom of the barrel?

Why are these niggers so hellbent on ruining classic shows with shitty modern day remakes/reimaginings? They ended on a good note and they were consistently great. THEY DON'T NEED TO BE REIMAGINED OR REMADE. It's not even going to make that much money back: the target audience of older millennials has since outgrown it and later millennials and Gen Z barely knows of its existence.

Oh man, I can't imagine how fucking bad the gargoyles themselves are gonna look in live-action. It's gonna be horrible, just complete and total dogshit.
Whats going to be worse is the politcs and LGBT+ shit thats going to be shoved in it. If i remember there was some talk from Greg Weismen or one of the other creators/people who worked on the series that one of the Gargoyles, Brooklyn I think, was supposed to be gay or something of that sort but funny enough Disney actually wrangled them into steering them away from that and focus on just making a good cartoon. I fucking wish that Disney was still around...

It was Lexington, actually. Weisman knew what he was doing when it came to storytelling (see Deadly Force), so I would have been cool with it, since Lex wouldn't have been an unbearable, flaming faggot, or a tranny.

Christ, they're gonna make Lex a tranny, aren't they?

Idk have you watched Young Justice after like the first two seasons. I think if that man is controlled and wrangled he does great work but given the reins who seems like a huge spreg. Go look at post he made about all the woke stuff he did in Young Justice and how he tried to justify it.

I've never even heard of that show. I stopped watching kids cartoons years ago.

So, Greg's just another woke fag, eh? I shouldn't be surprised, but I sure am disappointed in him.

Lol it’s a DC cape show so your not missing anything by not knowing it was on. Though the woke seasons were great for a laugh, like giving a Muslim girl the power to explode and then making a character non-binary because the AI type being inside of her wanted to be, completely removing the free will of the person it took over lol.

I’ll say this though if Weismen is wrangled I think his a skilled writer but he shouldn’t be allowed to much control. The first issue he wrote for the most recent Gargoyles comic was actually pretty good so I don’t think it would be too bad if he was the writer but yea 100% someone’s going to be a tranny lol.

It's simple, old IPs bring less money and take viewers' free time. If western entertainment studios could have destroyed every book, comic, tv show and film that were over 5 years old, they would have done it in a heartbeat.

I dreaded the day this would happen, and it happened in an even worse manner.

I was expecting a cartoon reboot, but a goddamn live-action series? How is it going to work?

Hot damn this trash fire will burn hard!

Gargoyles was a fantastic show that was full to the brim of what globohomo wants to push. I cannot imagine how BADLY they will shove those elements into everyone's faces now that competent writers are a thing of the past and nobody seems willing to tard wrangle creatives anymore.
Here's the thing; The original series did push those things, but it didn't feel like such a big deal and felt rather reasonable. Even the anti-gun episode was more about gun safety rather than outright banning them from everyone's reach. And all those episodes where they travel through the mist and go to Africa, Ireland, Japan and such, weren't a chore to watch and didn't bash the viewer with unneeded preachiness - Well, maybe except the one in Central America, but even then it wasn't so bad.

Now all nuance is gone and Greg Weisman himself is all too happy to let loose his tendencies to shove diversity for diversity's sake, rather than making sense out of a story. Nothing is sacred anymore.

I guess this counts as a Win for that Mummies show that was kinda competing with Gargoyles when it was on TV. Not tied to marketable Disney brand so no shitty Disney reboot. Who knows, maybe they'll find a way to make a shitty live action Mummies and people will hype it up as being "just like the old days".

I like how this Implies One piece started the live action adaptation trend. I'm guessing they did it because it was the only one in recent years that was kinda well received by audiences probably solely due to the original's creator managing to wrangle at least some control over the thing. It's just so ridiculously false of a claim it's "following in the footsteps of one piece" when Disney's been doing this with every property they own for the last fucking decade now.

Fully agreed. In my current jaded state I see how much of Gargoyles is full of globohomo. But it's done well, so very well.

Elisa is a strong half native/black woman cop who don'.... but yes, she does need the help from the others and she's not constantly whining about being a woman in the police force nor about how hard it is being . She just does her fucking job the best she can and befriends and to a degree takes advantage of having said friends that can get shit done which can't be done the traditional way.

The traveling through the world looking at different culture and their myths was great. I mean, for fucks sake, I learned about Annansi from Gargoyles, why in the name of fuck is a society obsessed with nigger worship never done a single adaptation of that?

Race mixing is very present there with Elisa's parents as well as her having a thing with Goliath. The first things was just treated as is, no fanfare and the second was looked at more carefully since it's probably bestiality, but didn't get too melodramatic about it and certainly didn't make it about a fetish thing, they just loved each other.

I also remember the gun episode, but it was a decently balanced take of it all, basically, they aren't fucking toys, but it certainly didn't go full "you are a monster if you are a gun owner" or anything of the sort.

A current day version though? Elisa would be full on insufferable, her mother would be a BLM activist and her father bitching about the white man stealing his land and would need no man or Gargoyle to get it done. Lexinton would be a flaming faggot instead of the nerdy introverted guy that was the original show and him taking such an interesting in taking care of Zanatos kid would go from endearing to creepy at light speed. The relationship between Elisa and Goliath will be fetishised to high hell and the gun control episode? That would be a whole season of brown beating those darned magamericans that can't accept those nice gargoyles!

Also, somebody troons out.

This is going to be a hilarious train wreck. My sympathies to all involved.

Let's look at the characters. Majority of them will likely be providing voice acting only if they are tricked into getting involved. Start off with the best of all things, Keith David who gave his voice to Goliath.

Say no Keith, you're better than this.

Since he's been brought up Lexington's voice actor was Thom Adcox-Hernandez who since he is voicing Klarion in Young Justice presumably would make sense to be kept in since he's still involved with the right people. And the actor is gay so easy lazy "win" to just make the character gay.

You were originally cast not for your sexuality chief. This time you might be cast purely for it.

Hudson was Ed Asner who unfortunately died 2 years ago. RIP, you did some very solid work in the show. I suspect they'll leave you dead because you were far too much fun and old competent Gargoyle will upset people.

Brooklyn is Johnny Bravo aka Jeff Bennett. Sure, we will need some comedy and no doubt aside from being a lisping sterotype Lexington will not be doing that. He was also the Magus and Owen Benntt, the guy Puck copied

1697663938931.png

Broadway was Marshall's dad in How I Met Your Mother, Bill Fagerbakke. He seems nice but we likely have too many white guys, he will be replaced by Lizzo since he was the fat gargoyle. Hopefully they will not be so classless to rename her as as "wideload" off the back of a truck.

1697664130324.png

Xanatos was Riker AKA Jonathan Frakes and likely too old for the role. Which means the shows is DOA because Xanatos is arguably more relevant to the show than Goliath and not nailing that is a death sentance.

1697664324860.png

Speaking of vital to the show Eliza Marza was Salli Richardson, a Town Called Eurka is what I recognise her most from as Alison Blake and honestly her ex-husband in that show was very close to a good Xanatos. Hollywood being what it is they'll claim she's too old and replace her with someone who posted "I stand with Palestine!" in the last month.

Sticking with the women Desdemona is Marina Sirtis or Deanna Troi from Star Trek Next Generations. No clue what will happen with her, especially if they go with the plot point of her shifting to human during the day.

1697664641216.png

Bronx is the dog Gargoyle and voiced by Frank Welker. I can see no reason not to reuse his work but the canine will likely be cut since he's not exactly vital. If kept in I suspect he will hump someone or urinate on them.

1697664713295.png

While not technically part of the main cast there's one fun find I got in all of this, Macbeth is Gimli

1697665481376.png

And continuing the Star Trek Stuff Puck is Data I mean Brent Spiner

1697665581311.png

Of course if they decide to replace Puck with a black guy to improve diversity they're probably going to want to remove all the scenes where Desdemona is dragging him around in chains.

Hell ya nigga, all we need now is someone to bring back Mummies Alive and we will be living in the alternate universe version of the 1990s where everything fucking sucks.
