Plenty of people get released from jail and end up on the streets.
This whole situation is a testament to how prison systems fail. Regardless of if he did or didn’t do it, prisons focus should be rehabilitation and treatment, 2 years is a long time to address Chris’s mental state and he somehow came out worse, completely delusional with the confidence of a cult leader. Sure he’s probably medicated now, but deep set delusions need more, and god knows if he has a social circle that are reinforcing those beliefs.

he didn't go to prison, he went to jail. the purpose of jail isn't rehabilitation. the purpose of jail is keeping you locked up until you go on trial. that's literally it.

Jail - You haven't been convicted of anything, there is no rehabilitation or treatment. But we're assuming you did something wrong so you're treated like shit. By Chris's own account he just drew his stupid drawings, used the bible to add more nonsense in his autistic dreamworld, and listened to music. Chris was probably at most just depressed to be there beyond that he was the same old tard. He was also kept solitary because obviously other correctional inmates would beat the shit out of him or worse.
Psychiatric Ward - Chris's lawyer sent him there because I HAVE NO FUCKING DOUBT that when interrogated Chris just happily rambled on and told the detective how he had hot sex with his senile mommy. If you doubt that then you have to believe Chris wouldn't talk to police and come on that's the most absurd shit ever. Chris was sent there to understand "court terminology" in other words he is so mentally stunted he would have happily confessed to every crime as long as Officer Smilie asked him nicely.
This was never about making Chris better. The State of Virginia determined motherfucking isn't enough to punish a guy beyond a couple years. They just don't want him to be a threat to society.

imo Chris lies when he feels put on the spot, to make himself look better. He doesn't lie when he just gives information out of nowhere (his dirty crapped briefs, him recycling his you-know-what with Fanta, etc).
When he talked to Null and others about it, no one expected him to have found a gf after all his poly marriage delusions. And Chris even had the gall of being smug and coy about it, giving them clues about her identity (older, she worked as an accountant, etc). I think Bella was simply the first one to put two and two together and Chris confirmed it right away.
As others said, Barb was sent to the hospital and very likely got a rape kit. Chris said he used condoms, but even so they most likely found internal bruises compatible with recent sexual "activity". They gave him a restraining order. But between a senile old woman and a tard, it was pretty much impossible to prove it was rape and also who raped who, so they put him in jail on incest charges. Then he was allowed once again to slip throught the system's cracks because as explained here the state of Virginia just lets autists get away with "minor" crimes, but the fact still stands that he spent almost 2 years in jail for a reason.

From what I remember it was confirmed that the police had checked in on Barb and taken her somewhere, but to my knowledge a rape kit done on her was speculation.
People familiar with the process of how suspected rape victims with diminished capacities were handled said that it was standard practice. But of course that’s not evidence that she was subject to this.
It wasn’t 100% clear if they took her in as a suspected rape victim or a victim of elder abuse.
