Starbucks barista’s ‘secret note’ on cup to help young woman sparks heated debate: ‘What are men supposed to do?’

A Starbucks barista’s secret note on a cup to a young female customer offering to “intervene” after a man started talking to her has generated heated debate online.

Texas woman Brandy Selim Roberson first shared the story in a viral Facebook post last year.

She praised the employee for stepping in when her 18-year-old daughter was approached by a man she didn’t know while studying by herself at a Corpus Christi location.

The message on the cup read, “Are you okay? Do you want us to intervene? If you do, take the lid off the cup.”

Roberson wrote in the caption: “My 18-year-old daughter was at Starbucks, alone, the other night. A man came up to her and started talking to her. A barista handed her ‘an extra hot chocolate someone forgot to pick up’.

“How grateful I am for people who look out for other people! Side note: She felt safe and did not remove the lid, but let them know. She said the whole team was watching over her the rest of the time she was there. Thank you to Starbucks for having a great team.”

At the time, Roberson said, “The man was very loud and animated … She looked up and just saw a row of baristas staring at her — ready to step in. This reaffirms my faith in humanity. Maybe just seeing this story, others … if given the opportunity to say something or turn away, they would say something.”

The story and photo have gone viral again online after being shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, by the account Call to Activism.

“This gave me goosebumps,” the account wrote in a post that has been viewed 20.5 million times.

“As a parent, this story shook me to the core, but also gave me hope that there’s still some humanity out there.”

In 2021, a Florida bartender went viral after handing a similar note disguised as a receipt to two women who were being hit on by a creepy customer.

“If this guy is bothering you, put your ponytail on your other shoulder, and I will have him removed. He’s giving me the creeps,” the note read.

Many users praised the reported actions of the Starbucks staff.

“As a father of a daughter, I’m glad people are still looking out,” one wrote.

Another said, “In today’s society more people should be proactive like this. You just never know what a situation really is. Kudos to the alert Starbuck’s staff. Never be silent and always ask.”

A third wrote, “I wish that was me when my boyfriend assaulted me. Nice customer service.”

However, some online claimed the Starbucks staff had overreacted and bemoaned the current state of male-female relations.

“And some people wonder why so many young men have never approached a woman,” wrote singer Phil Labonte.

Last month, a study published on DatePsychology suggested nearly half of young men under 25 had never approached a woman in person, with most citing fear of rejection and fear of social consequences.

One X user commented, “Can’t approach women in coffee shop (creepy). Can’t approach women at work (unprofessional). Can’t approach women at the gym (distracting, creepy). Can’t approach women at church (no singles). Can’t approach women in public (with friends). What are men supposed to do?”

Author Rachel Wilson wrote, “Feminism has created mass hysteria that men are nothing but violent assault machines, and that the only thing stopping them from enslaving the entire female sex is feminist activism and laws. It’s insanity and it must stop. Women’s studies departments should be shut down.”

But some said the negative reaction from “angry men” just proved the point.

“Men in the quotes giving us great examples of why the employees stepped in,” one said.

“Y’all are not entitled to speak to women simply because you think you can or perceive yourself as no harm.”

Lmao, this reminds me of this classic image:

how dense are you to think someone being offended you view them automatically as a rapist means they are one
"You're a creepy, rapey, ugly, fat, pigheaded, obsolete gender that offer nothing women can't buy from Amazon, so you should just jump off a cliff!"

"What? Who asked you, you dumb bitch?!"

"Ooooooh........ I touched a nerve............ I must be right"

Modern Feminism thinks this is rock-solid logic.

i have seen that exact logic in threads like this and laughed every time

I’m going to make an assertion that this story was a made up fabrication.
The Barista was super concerned but it was ultimately the Mom who wasn't even there who shared the story? Even the murky details of this story are so thin they have to go straight into quoting random facebook comments to make it hit the word quota.

Yeah I'd bet money on this being entirely fabricated.

3. The human race dies out.
It's going to be this.
the man literally just talked to her
how anyone can find a way to defend this is ridiculous
The human race won't die out, unless you don't consider Africans to be human. The population of Africa is expected to triple at least, and that's only counting the Africans that stay on the continent.

The West may be programmed for self-destruction, but the world will keep turning no matter what happens.

This also reminds me of the feminist reaction to sexbots:

"Any man who would willingly buy one of those things is just too ugly and pathetic to get a real woman."

"Ok, so what do you think men who are too ugly and pathetic to get a real woman should do instead? Or do you think they deserve to suffer simply because they are ugly and pathetic?"

"Errmm..."

Of course they think ugly men deserve to suffer for being ugly, but they'll never admit it.

Pretty fucking sexist for these baristas to think that this woman needed their fucking help tbqh

You're a coffee pourer, not a knight in shining armor. I'm sure this strong independant female could have just said "I need some help here!" if she really needed it, it was't like this guy had a gun on her under the table ffs

Edit: And if he did, it wasn't like their baby back bitch ass was gonna stop him.

Hmm was the man a negro? That would affect the way i view this story.
At the time, Roberson said, “The man was very loud and animated …
When you live in blue state areas, you know how to pick up the code words quickly. So yes, it was a Frappucino Monkey (because the only coffee niggers ever buy are glorified milkshakes).

The sexism of the white knight barista can go completely undetected because the bumbling loud INCEL daring to interact is too distracting for the young woman to evaluate it.

Isn't the barista a woman or was that not stated? If it's a he, it actually plays into modern sensibilities perfectly: men should not hinder women in any way but also assist them in every way possible.

Remember guys, meeting women is easy.

And whatever you do in the process is wrong.
But in this case, we don't even know anything besides some autist male talked to a disinterested woman, who seemed to feel secure and fine and didn't want or ask for assistance. She thought she could handle it fine and by all accounts did. All the sudden, her retarded mother and these genderspecials at Starbucks made a huge deal about it. I am just like wat as a mother. Men are going to be interested in your adult daughters. As long as it all went down civil, who cares?
