Not to go too off topic but it's honestly more likely he just killed himself. Kurt had a long history of depression, had a previous suicide attempt in Rome, said in several interviews he's been suicidal in the past and self medicated with heroin which he became severely addicted to making his life living hell. He hated the band he was in and was sick of touring but had to contractually, was a slave to drugs and on the verge of a divorce with Courtney who was threatening to take away his kid forever plus half his shit. His life was spiraling out of control and he had quite a few reasons to kill himself.
This basically exists and it's an entire band called Rage Against the Machine

Also, Kurt never really wanted to be a superstar - Just be able to live off his music. He was more than glad for the huge income that his mainstream success brought, but simply couldn't handle the pressure and the downsides of overnight fame, like constant media exposure and obnoxious fan hounding. Furthermore, he was no slouch when singing and playing the guitar, and was actually willing to pursue new artistic directions (for example, according to Michael Stipe of REM, he grew fond of more polished techniques and intended to incorporate full-string sections in future recordings). And as mentioned, he used his newfound fame and influence to shed some light on bands he admired. Most of us would have never heard of stuff like The Melvins, Mudhoney, Shonen Knife and Daniel Johnston if it weren't for him.
