You're talking as though two parties presented their arguments to the court and the court decided in favour of LFJ. That is not what happened.

A slight plus of this outcome is that because it didn't resolved any legal questions the judgement won't be used as a precedent.

In Australia, truth is an absolute defence. In fact statements only have to be "substantially true", not completely true.

That said, defended defamation actions here tend to be extremely expensive and even the party which prevails tends to be out of pocket. The plaintiff also tends to suffer significant reputational damage even if they prevail.

I'll take your word for it. What I would like next is to hear a logical explanation for why a court would give such a judgement because a private company refused to arbitrarily take down a site at the behest of a tranny with a conspicuous abscence of court orders or anything more substantial than "waa waa, they hurt muh feelings." If I get that then I will change my mind about Australia being retarded. I'll still believe they're all criminals, but only because it's an objective fact. Just wanted to add that a big reason that a judgment for maximum damages was incurred, and that the court ruled in favour of Jones, is because the defendant didn't defend himself at all.

Obviously the costs to defend might have been prohibitive, but there are at least two defences that could have been successful if they were mounted:

Hopefully he appeals and starts a crowdfund or something. There are definitely people willing to help.

Victoria, more specifically Melbourne, is the California of Australia.

What surprised me most is that Vincent and his company are in Brisbane, the picnic referenced is in Sydney and the action was brought in Melbourne. Thats 3 different states involved. I dont see how Victoria has a stake in this unless jurisdiction shopping but still...

Also, Vincent is retarded. He could have hired someone for the easiest win but instead lost to a default judgement. Australia has loser pays costs so Dong-Gone would pay whatever he spent on lawyers essentially bankrupting him.
