That is a complete understatement to say that whatifaltist is a niche celeb. He has hundreds of thousands of subscribers on his channel, people made several videos on his content, heavily criticized him for his cringe (and possibly fringe) political theories and beliefs, word salad takes, and taken the piss out of him for having lolcowsque mannerisms. His channel now has 551k subscribers and numerous followers on his other socials.

His historian status is also dubious at best and laughable at worse, since he only reads sources before the 1960s - 1970s because of "muh historical traditionalism". He hasn't got a degree in history and other facets of him being an untrustworthy person to get your arguments from and much else.

He's trying to build a discord cult a la Jordan Peterson, or maybe Jack Murphy. When someone tries to build a personal sperg army, it's only a matter of time before hilarity ensues; said hilarity seems to involve the shoving of things into buttholes more often than you would perhaps expect statistically.

At least he offers hot takes on a wide array of subjects, rather than all those channels that have been predicting the collapse of China "within weeks" for about 5 years now.

Predicting the Russian invasion of Ukraine is such an absurd thing to brag about. 2020 was after Zelensky got elected and when experts had already made predictions about a Russian invasion. AltHist did not come up with the prediction himself.

Youtube kept recommending his content so one day I clicked one one of his videos and could only get about 2/3rds through before I closed out. It was extremely repetitive and shallow. And smug. He says a lot less of substance than the usual people I watch, but has this sense of superiority that is unmistakable. He kept saying he was an elite and was doing badass cutting edge stuff with other young elites before he was 20. If you have to gas yourself up like that, it screams insecurity even if it's true. I doubt it is true, though, because the actual content is the sort of rambling diatribe any sperg with an interest in history could spit out off-the-cuff. I could make this nigga's content.

Look, I know there's been somewhat of a leftist bias in historian academia but it won't kill you to read something that isn't from the time that the Pinto was seen as a reliable car.

Reading older sources is based actually. Its one of the best qualities of men like Yarvin that they read lots of obscure primary or secondary sources that have fallen out of wide circulation. Often these obscure books end up providing fascinating insights that run contrary to the mainstream view. But you have to actually cite them and use them to say interesting and novel things.

I think Monsieur Z is more lolcow worthy. Whatifalthist is a tad too milquetoast to really deserve the KF treatment. But I suppose being milquetoast and inoffensive is a lolcow subcategory of its own.

At least MZ has his vague connections to some America First-wannabe group (though I think they're defunct at this point? AmVirtue or something) which might have some milking potential and his videos are laughably bad with how much he epitomes the stereotype of "a dumb Amerimutt talking about other cultures and countries he knows little about and projects his dumb mutt' problems onto".

As someone who's an alternate history autist, I have a passing knowledge of all the e-celeb players in that 'community' and I'd say MZ is definitely the more interesting of the two if you were to isolate between him and Whatifalthist.

I'm only planting some food for thought, regardless.

I will admit, whatifalthis has alot of flaws in his thinking for example:

* Standing with the status quo way too much

* Way too much faith in the failing American system

* Buying into propaganda way too much "x group killed 80 quadrillion which means they are completely bad!"

* He praises and criticizes other cultures in alot of the wrong areas. It's clear he's eaten alot of propaganda related to the groups he criticizes, but to be balanced, he levies these strange compliments to those groups too.

Keep in mind, he's not a normie he recognizes the issues with society and has videos where he talks about them but doesn't meaningfully support any ideas that will fix them and continues with his boomer.. vibes. Whatifalthist is an incredibly great example of a high-IQ but American view of things. Despite this, I'm not exactly sure how he's a lolcow right now. Can Whatifalthist become a lolcow in the future? Maybe. Is he one right now? Not really. I guess a thread on him wouldn't be a bad idea, purely just to criticize his ideas from a non progressive viewpoint.

He has no references to them (admittedly I never looked very deep) But I can see him being comically blackpilled after spending time in LA.
