As wierd as that seems, it would fit in with the idea that attraction to tranny's can be a quirky form of heterosexuality. The concept of Gynandromorphophilia (GAMP) is generally considered to be a heterosexual orientation but largely found in people who are themselves AGPs (autogynephiles, the trannies who get off on thinking they're a women, for those who didn't know.)
The trannies and tranny-adjacent probably deny GAMP exists as it's another term co-created by Ray Blanchard and the most commonly cited paper was co-authored by J Michael Bailey. That's 2 of the most based despised researchers for trans lunacy.

There’s also something to be said for how the typical nerd hobbies of video games, role playing and so on all encourage disassociation - they literally invite you to “become” someone else for a while. It’s fine and healthy for a well-adjusted individual to step into someone else’s perspective for a while. But someone without any empathy, or internal sense of self, such hobbies only further divorce them from reality.

People that get really into escapism tend to have lives that they want to escape from.
Another thing too is that it is very easy to get a sense of accomplishment from engaging in escapism while solving none of your problems. "My character did something meaningful and grew as a person, so I feel as if I have too." It is very easy to fall into that trap and develop tunnel vision on spending your life avoiding living it. It has also never been easier to do so.

Today I received the following photo from my mom who is non-affirming, but also hasn’t written me off, so we do a lot of exposure with her—while she stubbornly pretend my transition hasn’t happened.
Today’s photo was from my sister’s wedding 5 years ago (in which I lean against a wall with a non-smile on my face in a blue pinstriped suit with a freshly manicured beard) and the attached notes with the picture were about “how handsome you WERE [as a man]” in this photo and how I looked like my father.

Seeing the picture did nothing to make me miss pretending to be a man. It just kind of made me sad to see the person in the image, who couldn’t even really smile. And he had no interest in ever seeing the picture after it was taken because he hated his face so much.

I’d learned to wear bandanas to hide my bald head prior to this image (the closest I could afford or condone to wearing a wig in boy mode), but I wasn’t permitted to wear it to this event. I had to be a good male show pony, so my beard was groomed by a professional (who charged a lot to do a less-good job than I could do for myself and cut me in the process). The suit wasn’t even one I particularly liked but had been mandated by my sister, the bride, so I wore it obediently.

That’s the image that this relative thought was so handsome in comparison to me as a trans woman.
I thought about not responding, but realized that I wanted to discourage this behavior in the future, so I ran my response past my wife before hitting send:

“Thank you. I needed a new ‘before’ picture. ”

I figure that being told that your attempts to break my will are only helping me move forward might cause the behavior to stop.

At first she pretended to be confused by the response before launching into her following fiery invective:

“Be not deceived; God will NOT be mocked.”

I believe correction can come from any source, even people without your best interest in mind, so, as I drove to work, I talked with God about my gender journey and whether He felt mocked by it. The peace and reassurance I felt from Him would argue against that.

Now, my mother would simply argue that I’ve seared my conscience and am talking to a demon or myself when I pray.

This is an interesting prognostication because searing your conscience results in you caring less, not just about God, but about other people and being more willing to use them to get what you want; the opposite has become quite true for me in transition.

My heart has become more tender towards others and I’m far more humble than I ever was in male mode because I don’t HAVE to be right anymore. I can learn from others with no obligation to “fix” anyone else. That’s resulted in me becoming a much better spouse to my wife and a much better dad to my kids. (“Dad” is still the term we’ve chosen for my kids to use with me and we’re doing just fine with that.)
