You have a point. Looking at the text got me confused. He seemed normal and friendly. I could understand he would probably have mental health history being in the military but the way he talks in the text seems like your friend you'd known for years and are making plans to watch the game at the bar.
I'm gonna go ahead and say he became anhero, if the facebook posts sent above were actually by him he probably had a mental breakdown and decided he wanted to take some people with him before he went.

Personally I think its because Feds are hard targets, you walk into a government building with a rifle and start blasting you are dropped within a few seconds by one of the 50 guys there with a gun. You walk into a bowling alley however You are, at most, dealing with one or two guys with guns who you have the drop on and who are likely not very well trained. Shooters go for soft targets, not hard ones.
