For CNN to know about the threat to shoot up the base, it had to of been reported. I'm more concerned with that, not so much the being committed part. People get committed all the time, and maintain their 2nd amendment right.

Could be friend or family(who may lack knowledge), it’s not necessarily police; even with police, as you mention, their investigation wouldn’t warrant a confiscation of his arms especially if the threat wasn’t legally actionable. Very early days in the fact finding. I mentioned voluntarily committing yourself as that can be a resolution outside of pursuing arrest/prosecution for a threat and in some instances may side step Maine’s red flag law (ianal and don’t live in Maine).
