Not if it was through the VA. They've been reporting people en masse to NICS for being "mentally defective" regardless of voluntarily seeking treatment; that means depression, PTSD, age-related problems (i.e. inability to handle one's own finances, poor memory) etc.

It started as the NICS Improvement Act of 2007, signed into law by Obama, and the process has been on the books for over a decade now, but they only really got the ball rolling circa 2016.

I personally know several other vets who sought voluntary out-patient treatment for PTSD and depression, and then suddenly started getting denied on background checks years later; they had to get lawyers to find out the reason.

Young guy in a shop I worked at was a weirdo by default (turbo-weeb, unhealthy obsession with guns and knives), but he went off his rocker going through a divorce and getting into some weird shit off base that caused him problems. One day he was making stabbing motions behind people's backs and other weird shit that raised people's eyebrows. People made complaints and felt unsafe because of the escalating behavior.

Eventually he got locked up in the looney bin off base for a bit. Commander stripped guns from his home off base and locked them up in the on base armory. He wasn't allowed to have them back while they were figuring out what to do with him. When he was deemed unfit for service and as soon as he stepped foot on the other side of the base gate, he was allowed to have his guns back. That never sat right with me. This guy was the sort that should definitely have his shit permanently revoked.

Society has definitely gotten too soft and even with the military, it's very much a "make it someone else's problem" attitude - despite the persistent claims that people care and all these strides are supposedly being taken to address mental health care. It's all a shitshow that's generally swept under the rug until shit like this happens.

Local here, close friend lives very close to the bowling alley. Photo was taken just before 8 pm. People I know have family that were there, we know of one child that was grazed by a shot. Wild shit, sirens all night long.

Knife people always bother me more then gun people. Not the sword or pre gunpowder enthusiast types but the ones who are older then 17 and still think they're a samurai expert because they got the nicer katana off the Bud K catalog. Everyone who I met was a knife person tended to be overly immature with their knives. Guns on the other hand I have to say are very quick with their Darwin award no one ever likes to talk about themselves shooting off a limb or worse ending their life.
When it comes to understanding guns it takes a healthy respect. What you have is designed to kill and it is far too dangerous to not be left in the hands of the masses.
I won't alone go into the legal matters if you don't know where your shot count works and how courts are great at documenting gunshots but not motivated to do their job.

its a school night. again maybe its different where you live, but no where anywhere anyone i know has been to has childrens events this late at night. i'm so pissed about it because its rather obviously a lie or blatant misinformation that apparently i'm the only one calling bullshit on. Maine is weird when it comes to school because of potatoes. Since a lot of rural kids work on farms and go to school, but potatoes are harvested when the kids go to school so they start school a couple of weeks yearly and then have a 2 week break where they can work on the farms. (At least that's how it was in Northern New Brunswick which is right on the boarder with Maine).

It is entirely possible for there to have been a kids night there, especially if they would be going back to school next week.

I think it is pretty obvious what happened here.

VA is notoriously garbage. This dude was hearing voices, and had 20 years of firearms instruction on the NG. He has had issues for a long time if he was at the point of voice hearing.

I am betting a crisp United States Federal Reserve Dollar that he was hopped on SSRIs and psych meds for a long time. It has been known for decades at this point these drugs can cause aggression, delusion, anxiety spikes, loss of control and erratic behavior. No one does anything, and doctors who try run against a solid wall.

No one wants to address the causes for the malaise of the soul affecting so many people, but throwing drugs at them is easy and lines the pockets of people in power. And if they do fly off the handle and shoot up a school or movie theater? Well, that means we can have more police state to "keep us safe" and the gun control and police state lobbying crowds get to profit from the profit of the pharma and medicine lobbies so everyone ends up happy.

It also lines up very neatly with the timeline on mass shootings becoming a thing: these only really started on the 1980's, AFTER the 1968 Gun Control and 1970's compliance with it, plus the machine gun registry thing of the mid 80's. Suddenly guns are more controlled and homicides as a whole are going down, but we start having mass shooters. No correlation, no Columbines back when you could literally carry a loaded MG to a school on the bed of a truck and the biggest problem would be keeping the boys from pestering your ass with questions and demands to go shooting it on the range. But suddenly after they were controlled for over a decade mental kids start unloading on their classrooms.
