Games you think have perfect soundtracks. - Post 'em, boys and girls.

Just about all of Metroid Prime's music is lovely to listen to. I think the weaker themes are the boss tunes, but even they're pretty good and get you in the mood to fight bizarre mutated alien beasties.

Obligatory link to Phendrana Drifts:

Final Fantasy IV. Entire soundtrack is incredibly good and fits/sets the mood of whatever is going on in the game.

Banjo-Tooie is another favorite. Such a fun soundtrack with many memorable tracks.

There's definitely more, but these two always come to mind. I'll still put these ones on from time-to-time for some background music.

FTL, special thanks for those seamless peaceful to combat transitions.
Yep FTL is absolutely enchanting. One of my favorite games and the OST is beautiful. The extra music in the Advanced Edition doesn't have the same vibe imo and I'm sad that the game doesn't have an option to turn it off like you can the rest of the expansion.

Tax: VA-11 Hall-A.

Other soundtrack that might reach the "perfection" state in my mind is King's Bounty: The Legend, somewhat slavjank high fantasy RPG that plays a bit like single hero Heroes of Might and Magic. It just catches high fantasy whimsical feels.

Really good 8bit esque tracks

One soundtrack I didn't expect to hit as hard as it did was Assassin Creed Black Flag's sea shanties. I especially like Leave Her Johnny, Lowlands Away, Roll Boy Roll!, Stormalong John, Fish in the Sea

Little Inferno. Same composer as World of Goo (Kyle Gabler) with some of the same themes. The soundtrack is mostly audio vignettes but it sets the stage perfectly - contemplative and chilling.

Kyle Gabler - "Reporting From The Weather Balloon"

It's a game about burning things, mostly. I definitely recommend it. The soundtrack is a free download.

Animal Crossing New Leaf
9-10 fucking years later and it's still charming.
9am and 1pm will forever be burned into my brain.

Gotta be Conker's Bad Fur Day for me. Music in every Rare game absolutely slapped, but something about this one stands out to me. It has such a wide variety in styles of music while still feeling thematically relevant. The music has no right to be as charming as it is in such a vile game.

Some of the standout tracks:

Windy and Co.

The Uggas (an extremely clever reggae take on Windy and Co.)

Bats (fucking masterpiece)

Rock Solid (prolly my first EDM exposure)

EDIT

Fuck it, Jet Force Gemini gets so love while I'm at it. Like I said, Rare was always peak. The soundtrack captured the tone of the setting incredibly well.

SS Anubis
